OnePlus 6T goes official with water drop notch and in-display fingerprint sensor

OnePlus have just launched their second smartphone of the year – OnePlus 6T – at an event in new york which is the successor to the OnePlus 6 also released this year. The OnePlus 6 packs a lot of improvement over its predecessor and we will be dissecting all the specs right here but asides from the slightly bigger screen and battery capacity, what else is new? Let’s find out together.

OnePlus 6T Specs Full Specs

・6.41-inch Optic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 1080 x 2220 pixels
・Android 9.0 Pie with 6GB/8GB RAM
・Octa-core 2.8GHz, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
・128GB/256GB built-in storage
・16P + 20MP rear camera and 16MP front camera
・3700mAh non-removable Battery

Design And Display

The OnePlus 6T sports a glass body, both front and back with an aluminium frame all around. The notch on the OnePlus 6T has also been trimmed down to a water drop style notch which houses the camera as opposed to the somewhere boxed/rectangular notch found on the OnePlus 6 device. The device has a massive 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 which made it possible for it to achieve an 85.6 screen to Body ratio.

At the back of the device are the dual rear cameras sitting comfortably at the top centre of the device. Below the camera is where the fingerprint sensor is supposed to be as it is on the previous OnePlus 6 but isn’t. This is because the OnePlus makes use of the in-display fingerprint sensor which means that the screen doubles as a fingerprint sensor as found on other flagship devices. According to OnePlus, their version of this implementation is called “Screen Unlock” which they say is the fastest in-display fingerprint sensor.

Hardware and Software

Running the show inside the device is the top of the line Snapdragon 845 processor clocking speeds of up to 2.8GHz. It comes 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB and 256GB of Internal Storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal Storage. In the gaming department, we have the Adreno 630 doing all the heavy lifting. The OnePlus 6T comes with the new Android 9.0 pie out of the box with OnePlus’s Oxygen Os on top.

Camera, Battery & Connectivity

OnePlus have decided to keep thing minimal here with just two rear cameras and a single front-facing camera for selfies. The dual rear camera features a 16 MP main shooter with f/1.7 aperture and a 20MP secondary shooter with f/1.7 aperture also which is capable of shooting 4k videos at 30 or 60 frames per second. There is also Optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a new Nightscape feature with the aim to improve low-light photography. In the front, we have a 20 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture which can only shoot 1080p videos@30fps.

The battery segment also saw significant improvement, a 400mAh increase to be exact from 3300mAh on the OnePlus 6 to 3700mAh on the new OnePlus 6T with OnePlus’s Dash charge on board. The device also has Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE Support and USB Type-C reversible connector.
