Samsung Exynos 990 with 120Hz display support Launched

In preparation for the 2020 Samsung flagships, the company have announced the new Exynos 990 SoC. The new chipset comes with significant upgrades in terms of GPU, display and performance.

The Exynos 990 is manufactured on the 7nm EUV process technology. Compared to his predecessor – Exynos 9820, the chipset is said to be 20% faster and more focused on power-efficiency. The Exynos 990 features the company’s new 5G enabled modem – Exynos Modem 5123.

We are not surprised the Korean company did not release the clock speeds of the chip’s CPU. According to them, the Exynos 990 features two custom-made powerful cores, two Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The graphics processing unit is ARM Mali-G77 MP11.

The dual-core NPU on the Exynos 990 comes with a localized artificial intelligence. It won’t have to rely on network and server before processing data, everything can be carried out on the device. This will enable the device to respond faster to facial unlock and scene detection.

Speaking of the Exynos Modem 5123, the company says it will support all network. The modem in 5G network can hit 5.1Gbps in sub-6 GHz and 7.35 Gbps in mmWave. While for 4G LTE network, it can get to 3 Gbps.

The Exynos 990 will support 120Hz refresh rate displays, memory bandwidth with LPDDR5 and cameras with resolution up to 108MP. Mass production of this chipset is expected to begin before this year runs out. This will allow it to be featured in the Samsung Galaxy 11 coming out by 2020.
