Google is Scrapping YouTube Go 4 years After It Was Launched.

Google has announced that the YouTube Go app will be scrapped out in August.

YouTube Go was first launched in 2016 as a lightweight Android app designed for low-end hardware and limited cellular connectivity.

Google now recommends users to download the official YouTube app or visit youtube.com in their web browser. In contrast to YouTube Go, the standard YouTube app provides a better overall experience and includes features that many users have desired, such as the ability to comment, publish, create video, and use a dark theme, all of which are not available on YouTube Go.

The last update to YouTube Go was in October 2021, so the writing was on the wall. It now has over 500 million installations.

If you’re concerned about data consumption, Google says it’s developing additional user controls to help viewers with limited data usage reduce mobile data usage, with more updates coming soon.
