Alcatel 1 has been introduced by the tech giant, as a brutal low-end smartphone targeting first-time users and those on a tight budget. This is more like the watered-down version of the Alcatel 1X we saw at the MWC2018.
This smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo Go Edition with 1GB RAM, which is more than enough to multitask through all the Go apps. You also 8GB storage space and a 5MP rear camera.
Alcatel 1 Key Specs and Features
・5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 480 x 960 pixels
・Android 8.0 Oreo Go with 1GB RAM
・Quad-core 1.28GHz MediaTek MT6739
・8GB built-in storage, upgradeable up to 32GB
・5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera
・2000mAh non-removable Li-Ion Battery
The body isn’t what we will call amazing, but it sure looks better than most budget smartphones we’ve seen so far. There’s no rear fingerprint scanner, this is totally disappointing for even a budget smartphone in mid-2018.
The only visible feature at the rear is the rear camera and LED flash underneath. The Alcatel logo is also present as well, it measures 9.8mm in thickness and weighs 134g overall. It’s available in Black, Blue, and Gold colours.
Even though Alcatel claims the screen has an 18:9 aspect ratio, we can’t help but notice the huge bezels all over the front. Although there are no navigation buttons at the bottom bezels, the overall bezels are still quite enormous compared to other full-screen phones.
Nonetheless, the 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen should bring out your games and visuals clear enough. It boasts of 480 x 960 pixels in resolution and 195 pixels per inch density, with a 2.5D curved glass on top.
HARDWARE and SOFTWARE
Under the hood, the MediaTek MT6739 chip does its job efficiently, it was built on a 28nm process technology. The chip comes with a 4-core processor which reaches a normal speed of 1.28GHz. While the PowerVR GE8100 graphics card works wonders in the graphics department.
For multitasking, you get just 1GB of RAM space, this shouldn’t be a problem since it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo Go Edition. The internal storage is pegged at 8GB for storing files, but you can upgrade up to 32GB by using a memory card.
It adopts a 5MP rear shooter that comes with a LED flash underneath. While at the top bezel, there’s a 2MP selfie camera for selfies.
Network and Connectivity
The phone doesn’t support 4G LTE but can accommodate dual Nano SIMs and a microSD card. It has Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot and A-GPS.
The Alcatel 1 is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 2000mAh battery with no fast charging technology. Alcatel 1 is available on shopping stores, starting from $79 to $99, that’s about (N25,000 – N35,000).
