No Internet Connection: How to Fix WiFi Connected But No Internet Issues

In this article, we will be walking you through the step by step procedure involved in solving the No Internet Connection issues and how to fix WiFi connected but no internet access.

Internet issues are something we have to face frequently in this day and age as we need an internet connection for a lot of things.

When the issue arises, there are many reasons as to why, and while there isn’t a straightforward answer to know why, there are things you can do in order to try and fix the problem.

How To Fix WiFi Connected But No Internet Access

Before we begin, I will just like to point out that before you start following the procedures in this article to fix your internet connection issues, do make sure that you’ve contacted your internet service provider (ISP) and verified that everything is good from their end.

This is because this kind of issue is usually as a result of network downtime, you might get a message about this sometimes and sometimes you might not, leaving you wondering what happened to your WiFi router.

So just to be sure the problem isn’t from your internet service providers, Contact them and ask if everything is okay from their end. If they say it isn’t then you’ll just have to wait till they fix it. However, if they say everything works fine on their end then you can follow the steps below.

Check Your Router

It is safe to assume that if you aren’t able to connect to the internet then the first place to look or suspect is your WiFi router. It is normal to think so and half of the time, it is indeed a problem from your WiFi router. To verify if it is indeed a problem with your WiFi router, you’ll need to do certain things.

First, look for another device with WiFi capabilities like a computer, tablet or smartphone and connect to the same WiFi router as before. If it is able to connect to the WiFi network but still not able to connect to the internet then you can say for sure that the problem is most likely from your router. (If it connects and works fine then the problem is evidently from the device you connected with which we’ll get to in a minute)

Next, You’ll need to restart your devices, both the router and your pc, laptop, Android or any other device you were trying to connect with. This will refresh the IP address of the WiFi router and also clear any cache it might have stored, giving it a fresh new internet connection. You can verify your IP address by going to router’s setting pageĀ 192.168.0.1.

After that, try connecting the device to your WiFi network and see if it works. If it’s start work then you can start browsing, if not then there some more things you can do.

Check Your Device

Like I said earlier if you tried Connecting to your WiFi router with another device and it connects and works as it should then the problem is obvious from the device you initially tried to connect with. This is because we’ve verified for sure that your WiFi router is up and running and also has access to the internet but for some reason, the previous device was not able to use it.

Now, there are a number of ways to handle this depending on the device you tried to use. First, let’s start with a PC. If you tried using a PC then you can do the following to get rid of the issue.

  • Forget and Connect to the WiFi network
  • Clear cache of all WiFi connection and reconnect
  • Update the wireless network adapter automatically or manually

If you’re using a smartphone or tablet then you can do the following.

  • Forget and Connect to the WiFi network
  • Make sure your date and time is set to “Use network-provided time”
  • Reset Network settings
  • Make sure access to the internet isn’t restricted for some apps.

You can also try changing the wireless network mode on your router through the router website dashboard under wireless mode. You can change it from 802.11 b/g/n to 802.11 b or 802.11 g although I doubt this would make any difference as the latest WiFi standard (WiFi 802.11 b/g/b) is backwards compatible and should work regardless but just to be sure, switch to them all one by one and see if it works.

Conclusion

If after doing everything above and you’re still unable to access the internet after connecting to your WiFi network then you’ll need to contact an IT specialist to help you resolve the issue.
