Apple is introducing the new iPhone 14, iphone14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max series later this year. Mark Gurman In his latest Bloomberg newsletter report, talks about iPhone 14 series coming up with Always-on display (AOD) functionality.
The latest headline now is the long-rumoured AOD functionality which will possibly be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max and their low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) AMOLED displays. These panels can dial back the high refresh rate on the lock screen in a bid to save up battery power.
With the Always-On-Display (AOD) feature, you get basic details like time, date, battery percentage and as well as app notifications with their icons. This is absolutely possible because of the adoption of LTPO panel technology. The low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) display panels provides a variable refresh rate that starts from 1Hz when the device is inactive and moves up to the maximum of 120Hz.
Apple drops the frame rates so low that it ends up using extremely less power as the always-on display feature is activated. A recent rumour came up that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max would be able to go down to 1Hz.
Apple already offers this AOD feature on its Apple Watches so it is a good idea that the feature is finally coming to iPhone devices. Rumours got additional credibility with the news that all iOS 16 could also support the features. This simply means that the AOD feature is also expected to be on iPhone 13 Pro models because the iPhone 13 Models come along with the LTPO panels. Having the AOD is the right move for Apple as it is now moving to the next improvement stage.
The AOD could also be of help to Apple in conserving the battery life of the iPhone 14 Pro and as well as the iPhone14 Pro Max for its users, giving them long life with a similar-sized battery under the hood.
The iOS 16 is expected to come up with new lock screen wallpapers with “widget-like features” and enhanced audio messages in the iMessage. Apple Health is rumoured to get new characters available on both iPhone and as well as the Apple Watch also. Consequently, on the tablet side, iPad OS is considering bringing a new multitasking UI with enhanced support for windows. Apple is also preparing a main refit for the watch OS that will come along with new navigation options, more watch features, and a low-power mode.
Several leaks were able to confirm that Apple iPhone 14 Pro models will be getting the new punch-hole cutout instead of the notch type. It will be set aside for the vanilla iPhone 14 devices this year. The band is also expected to use 4NM architecture to manufacture the new A16 Bionic chipset, using most of its internals from the previous year’s A15 Bionic hardware, owing to the chip shortage and universal demand.
Meanwhile, the upcoming macOS software update is said to bring lots of app redesigns and a new system preferences menu stimulated by its iOS counterpart. Gurman says “it is unlikely we will see any hardware publication at the event”. However, he doesn’t completely rule out a redesigned new MacBook Air with an M2 chipset.
