Learn how to use Night Sight on Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Google Pixel 3 and Pixel XL are the latest installments to the Google Pixel 2. The new Pixel 3 smartphones come with a couple of features like the Top Shot, Night Sight, Rez zoom, etc which differentiate them from other smartphones.
Night Sight on Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, How it works
Night Sight is one heck of a feature that people have been talking about lately, however, the feature is not officially available but thanks to the guy at XDA Developer, they were able to get it activated on their Google Pixel 3. Google’s software prowess has continued to impress many of us. Especially in the area of the camera. While many phones are using 2 or 3 cameras to achieve portrait mode, Google has let us know that you don’t need more than one camera to achieve this.
What is even more interesting is the new Night Sight mode which lets you take low-light photos without needing a flash. It is a game-changer for smartphone photography. Then you might ask what this Night Mode is all about?
Night Sight is a new camera feature from Google that relies on software to deliver a well-lit and detailed picture even in the darkest of environments. The mode works quite similarly to how Google’s HDR+ feature works by combining multiple exposures together to reduce noise and improve the lighting. Night Sight captures many more frames, requiring you to hold still for a few seconds.
Night Sight mode is not officially available but the latest version of the Google Camera app which was rolled out to users yesterday already has a fully functional Night Sight built-in. Somehow, a senior XDA member decompiled the app, switched a value from false to true, and recompiled the camera APK. He was able to do the same on the Google Pixel 2 XL and from the pictures, they took with the Night Sight plus HDR turned on, the results are simply impressive.
How to Use Night Sight on Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL
- Firstly open the camera app and switch to the “More” tab to locate the Night Sight mode. Once you point your camera to shoot in a low-light environment, the camera will remind you to turn on Night mode.
- Once in Night Sight mode, all you need do is to simply press the camera shutter button[ the one with the moon icon] and long-press for like a few seconds and allow it to capture frames.
- Then, go your gallery app, the Google Photos app, to locate the pictures taken with Night Sight. Google differentiates these pictures by showing a moon icon in the top right-hand corner.
