Huawei Breaks New Ground with the Official Launch of the Tri-Fold Mate XT Ultimate Design

After weeks of anticipation, Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT Ultimate Design, the world’s first commercially available smartphone with a tri-folding display. The ambitious device promises to redefine foldable technology with its unique features.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Trifold Design

The Mate XT features a dynamic display that adapts to various user needs. When closed, it functions as a standard 6.4-inch FHD+ phone. Partially unfolded, the screen expands to a 7.9-inch 2K display, perfect for watching videos or managing emails. Fully extended, it transforms into a tablet-sized 10.2-inch 3K display, offering a desktop-like experience.

In terms of design, the phone’s thickness is just 3.6mm when fully opened and 12.8mm when folded—a slight increase compared to the 12.1mm body of the Z Fold 6.

Huawei claims the Mate XT offers a 25% increase in bend resistance compared to other foldable devices, though real-world testing will be necessary to assess the durability of its tri-fold design.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design Specifications

While Huawei has yet to confirm the processor, rumors suggest it could feature the Kirin 9000 chip, seen in the Pura 70 series.

The Mate XT’s camera system boasts a 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0), accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 12MP periscope telephoto lens. On the front, an 8MP camera handles selfies and video calls.

Despite the complexity of the tri-fold structure, Huawei has managed to fit in a 5600mAh silicon carbon battery, which is said to be the thinnest of its kind. It supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

Huawei also introduced a foldable touch keyboard that pairs with the Mate XT, offering a desktop-like experience for productivity-focused users.

Pricing and Avaialability

The Mate XT Ultimate Design is available in Black and Red, with pricing starting at 1,99,99 yuan (around USD 2,808 or Rs. 2,35,910) for the 16GB+256GB model. The 16GB+512GB variant costs 2,19,99 yuan (approximately USD 3,089 or Rs. 2,59,500), while the 16GB+1TB model is priced at 2,39,99 yuan (about USD 3,370 or Rs. 2,83,095). Pre-orders have already begun, with sales in China set to start on September 20.
