Huawei is taking a giant step by introducing a punch-hole display to the tablet world. Their newest MatePad Pro is a high-end tablet device that features a punch-hole display. The feature has been a norm on smartphones this year.
On paper, the Huawei MatePad Pro is in direct competition with the Apple iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. The device comes with an AMOLED display that measures 10.8 inches. The display features 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. According to Huawei, the display has a 90% screen-to-body ratio with the bezels measuring just 4.9mm.
The punch-hole in the tablet’s display is home to an 8MP selfie camera. At the back is a single camera with a 13MP sensor and f/1.8 aperture. The back camera is capable of recording 4K resolution videos at 30fps.
Inside the MatePad Pro is Huawei’s in-house Kirin 990 SoC which is slapped with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. Software-wise, it comes with the latest Android 10 with EMUI 10 custom skin. Due to the Huawei ban by the US Government, the MatePad Pro doesn’t feature any Google Mobile Services Suite. There is a laptop mode in the device, which gives it the regular PC interface screen and multi-window functionality.
Powering the MatePad Pro is a gigantic 7,500 mAh battery. The tablet supports a 40W Huawei SuperCharge, a 7.5W reverse wireless charging and a 15W wireless charging. The device comes with a stylus pen which the company is referring to as the M-Pen. Samsung also has a stylus pen called the S-pen. Anyways, the M-pen will lead to more precise drawing and interaction with the tablet.
The Huawei MatePad Pro weighs a huge 460 grams and measures 159 x 245 x 7.2 mm in dimensions. Pre-orders start today November 25 and official sale is scheduled to begin December 12. According to the company, a 5G version of the tablet is in works and can be expected in the first quarter of 2020.
