Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro — the next flagship Mate series smartphones from the Chinese-headquartered device maker — will be launched formally on September 19, a report from Russian news website Hi-tech.Mail.ru says.
The stage is set for the 2 phones to slug it out with the duo of Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+, which were unveiled earlier this month.
The information on the launch date of the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro was allegedly revealed by the president of Huawei’s Consumer Business Software, Dr Wang Chenglu, who also confirmed the upcoming devices will be featuring HiSilicon’s Kirin 990 processor.
However, previous rumours had claimed that HiSilicon’s next flagship processor would be released with the name, Kirin 985.
As one of its spotlight features, the silicon will come with higher energy efficiency. Even though the phones will be powered by Kirin 990 chip, as opposed to Kirin 985, it is possible that Dr Wang might be referring to the very same chip, but with a different marketing name selected during the development phase.
Further, higher power efficiency makes a lot of sense, because the new chip, irrespective of the chosen name, is reported to be the first one designed on TSMC’s 7nm EUV process.
EUV, which could be marketed as 7nm+, enables 20 per cent greater transistor density and may be slightly more power-efficient.
The Kirin should also have a 5G modem built-in, though information on that is still a tad sketchy since according to other online sources, a separate Mate 30 5G version will hit stores around December 2019, some months after the alleged September 19 launch date.
Concerning other features of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, reports say there will be a 6.7-inch, BOE-made AMOLED panel, 90Hz, 55W charging. The phone also gets an under-display fingerprint reader, a fairly large display notch (which might be a pointer to advanced face-scanning hardware). In addition to these, the smartphone will pack 2 massive rear 40-MP sensors, which will be part of a circular camera module.
The bulk of this hardware information might very well apply also to the regular Huawei P30 smartphone.
As regards the lite version, a pretty different phone is expected this year, especially considering the possibility that it could run Huawei’s new HarmonyOS as Android’s alternative.
