Huawei Nova 3i VS Huawei Mate 20 Lite: Which one to buy ?

Huawei Nova 3i is a super mid-range device while Mate 20 Lite is a less powerful version of the Mate 20 which is a flagship on its own. Now, the Huawei Nova 3i and Mate 20 Lite are both in the mid-range segment and also in the same price range. Both devices here are rocking the same in-house Kirin 710 chipset so let’s go ahead and figure our their differences as well as their other similarities.

Huawei Nova 3i VS Huawei Mate 20 Lite – Design & Display

Both devices here have a 6.3-inch display, However, Mate 20 Lite use LTPS IPS LCD while Nova 3i uses just IPS LCD. Nevertheless, both devices still have the same screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 (409) and the same 19:9 aspect with a notch.

Talking about the notch, it houses 2 cameras each on both devices. There are two cameras each on the back of both devices with the fingerprint sensor sited at the usual spot. Nova 3i weighs a total of 169 grams, measures at 7.6mm thickness and has colours Black, Pearl White, Iris Purple and Acacia Red while Mate 20 Lite body is made of aluminium and front glass, weighs 172 grams, measures 7.6mm in thickness and comes in Sapphire Blue, Black and Platinum gold colours.

Both devices are rocking the same chipset – the Huawei Kirin 710 which clocks speeds of up to 2.2GHz. This is paired with a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. Nova 3i has two RAM and storage options which include a 4GB RAM variant with 64GB of internal storage and a 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of internal.

Mate 20 Lite, on the other hand, has the same RAM options of 4GB and 6GB but is paired with only one storage option which is 64GB. Regardless of this, you can still expand storage further on any of the devices via the MicroSD card slot which also doubles as the second SIM Slot (Hybrid SIM). (This applies to Mate 20 Lite if you get the dual-SIM version, not single SIM).

Also, the Mate 20 Lite comes with AI-powered 3D Qmojis that recognise and imitate your facial expressions, movements, and voice. You can create personalised Qmoji GIFs and videos for easy social media sharing.

As for software, things are pretty much the same. Both devices are running Huawei’s own EMUI 8.2 with Android 8.1 Oreo underneath.

On each device, we have a total of four cameras; two up front and another two at the back. On Nova 3i’s back, there is a 16MP main shooter with f/2.2 aperture accompanied by a secondary 2MP depth sensor camera with LED flash, HDR and Panorama, capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. At the front is also a dual camera setup which consists of a 24MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary 2MP depth sensor camera equipped with HDR and can also record 1080p videos at 30fps.

Mate 20 Lite on the other features a 20MP wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture at the back alongside a secondary 2MP depth sensor and an LED flash, HDR, Panorama and 1080p video recording at 30fps. For selfies, there is a 24MP wide angle main camera with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary 2MP depth sensor camera which is equipped with HDR and also 1080p video recording at 30fps.

Battery & Connectivity

Huawei Nova 3i has a 3,340mAh battery capacity while Mate 20 Lite has a slightly bigger Battery with 3,750mAh Battery capacity. Both devices come equipped with fast charging of up to 10W for Nova 3i and 18W for Mate 20 Lite. Both devices also have similar connectivities with 4G LTE, Bluetooth v4.2, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct and USB on the Go. However, there are some differences, Huawei Nova 3i has a micro USB 2.0 port and doesn’t have NFC while Mate 20 Lite has USB Type-C and NFC.

Huawei Nova 3i VS Huawei Mate 20 Lite – Price

Huawei Nova 3i goes for about $260 while Mate 20 Lite goes for a little less at $270. Both devices are available for purchase at most online stores and it is obvious that the one to buy here is definitely the Mate 20 Lite but make sure you get the dual-SIM version. That way, if you choose to expand your storage, you can.
