Huawei Nova 5 and 5 Pro were recently announced alongside the Nova. Both devices have similar features and specifications with just one difference – the chipset.
The Huawei Nova 5 uses the new Kirin 810 SoC while the Note 5 Pro uses a more powerful Kirin 980 flagship SoC. Asides from this, they both feature a 6.39 OLED display with a notch which houses the front-facing camera.
They both come with four cameras at the back and they are powered by 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (or 256GB for the 5 Pro). There is an in-display fingerprint sensor and a 3,500mAh with support for up 40W fast battery charging.

Design And Display
Huawei Nova 5 and 5 Pro both have a 6.39-inch OLED display with a 1080p screen resolution, 403ppi, 19:9 aspect ratio and an impressive 85% screen-to-body ratio.
At the top of the display is the water drop notch housing the front-facing camera with a small chin down at the bottom. The back has four cameras and an LED flash. The fingerprint sensor here hides underneath the display.
Overall, they both weigh 171 grams and measure 7.3mm in thickness given the same battery capacity on both Smartphones. Colour options available here are Black, purple, green and orange. They also have a dual hybrid SIM card slot which means you can either use two SIM cards or just one SIM and one nano-memory card.
Camera Review
We have a total of 10 cameras here on both devices, 5 on each with 4 of those positioned at the back. The back camera on both devices consists of a 48MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF. There is a 16MP secondary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP dedicated macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture and lastly, a 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.
Features of the rear camera include an LED flash, panorama, and HDR. It can shoot 2160p videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 30fps.
The single 32MP front facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture located in the notch up top has HDR and can also shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
Performance
This is perhaps the only difference between these two devices. On the Huawei Nova 5, is the new Hisilicon Kirin 810 which is an octa-core processor based on the 7nm architecture with a clocking speed of up to 2.27GHz alongside a Mali-G52 MP6 GPU for graphics and gaming.
Huawei Nova 5 Pro, on the other hand, takes things up a notch with the flagship Hisilicon Kirin 980 SoC based also on the 7nm architecture with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.6GHz with Mali-G76 MP10 GPU.
Both devices have 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage which is expandable through a SIM card slot. The Huawei Nova 5 Pro also has an exclusive 8GB/256GB configuration. Both devices are running EMUI 9.1 as expected which is based on the Android 9.0 Pie operating system.
Battery and Connectivity
Huawei nova 5 and 5 Pro both have a moderate 3,500mAh battery capacity on the inside which supports an impressive 40W fast battery charging able to get you up to 80% in just 30minutes through it’s USB Type-C port. It also has 4G LTE, Bluetooth, dual band WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, GPS and NFC. No 3.5mm jack here.
Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro Price and Availability
Huawei Nova 5 costs approximately $435 for the 8GB/128GB which is the only memory option available. Huawei Nova 5 Pro on the other hand also costs $435 for the 8GB/128GB while the roomier 8GB/256GB goes up to $500 or $550 if you want the limited edition with a special purple freelace earphones in the box.
There is no word yet if the Nova 5 devices will be available in Nigeria. The Huawei Nova 3i was sold in Nigeria but the Nova 4 never made it to the country. The Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro is expected to cost between N170,000 to N180,000 in Nigeria
