iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max Launched with the New Apple A12 Bionic chipset

After months of leaks, rumour and speculations, the latest iPhones have finally been unveiled. The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max. The iPhone Xs Max is the largest iPhone ever made with an incredible 6.5-inch OLED display. Both the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max have seen their specs upgraded compared to last year’ iPhone X. However design-wise they took after their predecessor.

iPhone Xs and Xs Max

The iPhone Xs is a 5.8-inch smartphone just like the original iPhone X. It has a 1,125 x 2,436px resolution with a touch frame rate of (120Hz). Apple also improved the stereo speakers to deliver a wider sound.

iPhone Xs Max is the largest iPhone ever made boasting a huge 6.5” AMOLED screen with a Super Retina display. The bezels have been reduced as well giving the device a tall 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio. The resolution has been bumped up to 1,242 x 2,688px with an impressive 458ppi pixel density.

It uses the same stainless steel material with an edge to edge super retina display. At the top front is the notch that houses a 3D depth sensing facial recognition ID. This means Apple has completely abandoned it Touch ID in favour of Face ID.

Iphone Xs and Xs Max

Apple has also added other fashionable colours to this year’s iPhones. The iPhone Xs comes in golden frame, silver and space grey colours. The device still retains the glass back design and liquid resistance designed to protect the device and is now HDR10 and Dolby Vision certified.

Apple also introduced Dual SIM functionality to its iPhones this year, the first time an iPhone will support such a feature. If you are in the West, your carriers must support the embedded SIM (eSIM) in addition to the single SIM slot to enjoy dual SIM functionality. People in China and other regions will get a special model that actually has two physical SIM slots.

Iphone Xs

Specs wise, the iPhone Xs boasts an improved dual rear camera comprising of 12MP sensors. The main wide-angle shooter has an all-new sensor with larger pixels – 1.4µm, up from 1.22µm. The aperture remains at f/1.8. The telephoto camera uses a 12MP sensor, f/2.4 lens with 2x optical zoom (and it has OIS)

The selfie camera has been improved as well. It now comes with a 7MP RGB sensor which is improved in speed and Video recording now finally supports stereo audio and wider dynamic range.

In terms of performance, both the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are powered by the newly introduced Apple A12 Bionic chipset which offers more performance boost than its predecessor.  Both devices are available in 64GB, 256GB and a cool 512GB storage option. The Apple A12 Bionic chipset is the first commercially available 7nm chipset to hit the market.  It is a 6-core design (2 big + 4 small) processor which is aided with a quad-core GPU and a new Octa-core neural engine, which according to Apple is able to process up to 5 trillion operations.

Iphone xs price and availability

In terms of pricing and availability, the iPhone XS (64GB) starts at $1,000/€1,149/£999 while the larger iPhone XS Max (64GB) will retain at $1,100/€1,249/£1,099.  You will be able to pre-order both devices from September 14. They will be available from September 21.
