Meet Asus ROG Phone 3 With SD865+ and 144Hz Refresh Rate

Asus is not slowing down in the gaming smartphone market. The company just released the third instalment of their ROG Phone. The gaming smartphone packs tons of accessories and can be customized to the user’s preference.

It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chipset. The device becomes the first to feature a CPU clocked at 3.09GHz speed. Also, the GPU is overclocked to achieve the best performance possible. There two memory configuration – 12/128GB and 16/512GB. The RAM is the fast LPDDR5 model while storage is UFS 3.1.

One of the key accessories that come out of the box is the AeroActive Cooler 3. At the back of the Asus ROG Phone 3 is a vent which allows the AeroActive Cooler 3 to blow a fan on the enlarged copper heat sink. Speaking of customization, each ultrasonic shoulder buttons can now be split into two for additional controls or adjusting the game camera’s angle as slide gestures.

The AMOLED screen measures 6.6″ and offers 144Hz refresh rate. From the phone’s settings, you can choose 120Hz, 90Hz or Auto refresh rate. The “auto” setting picks the most efficient for the task at hand and can reach 144Hz with the help of the AeroActive Cooler 3. The company also reworked Android’s internals which helped the phone to achieve a 270Hz touch sampling rate.

The rear camera system consists of three cameras and can record 8K videos at 30fps or 4K videos at 120fps. The main camera features a 64MP IMX686 sensor with ‘lossless’ 2x magnification support at 16MP resolution. The second is a 13MP ultrawide angle lens with 125° FoV and the third is a 5MP macro camera. The selfie camera sports a 24MP lens.

The Asus ROG Phone 3 packs a 6,000 mAh battery capacity and supports 30W fast charging over USB Power Delivery. It takes about 46 minutes to get the phone to 70% battery life from zero percent. The Asus software also gives the user the option to customize their charging method. The phone’s maximum charging can be set at 80% or 90%. You can also set the charging speed at 10W.

The 12/512GB model will cost you €1,000 if you opt for 16GB RAM with 512GB storage that adds an extra €100 to it. If you’re inclined on saving money, there is a Strix Edition with SD865 chip and 8/256GB retailing for just €800.
