Nokia 5.3 is a mid-range smartphone with decent midrange specs. It has a massive 6.55-inch display, a Snapdragon 665 on the inside with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

It also has a quad-camera setup at the back, one selfie camera in the waterdrop notch and a decent 4,000mAh battery on the inside. What else does the Nokia 5.3 have to offer? Let’s find out.

The design of the Nokia 5.3 is simply albeit beautiful. The front features a 6.55-inch IPS LCD display with a slab of Corning gorilla glass 3 on top for protection. At the top of the display lies the waterdrop notch housing the front-facing camera. The display itself if an HD+ display which uses a 19:9 aspect and has a pixel per inch density of 268.

Turning the device over to it’s back showing off the quad-camera setup beautiful fitting in a ring with the LED being in the centre. Below the ring of cameras is the fingerprint sensor for biometric unlock. The whole back of the device, as well as the frame, is made of plastic which is probably to cut down on cost.

This device weighs just 185grams and measures 8.5mm in thickness. It has three beautiful colour options to choose from which includes Cyan, Sand and Charcoal.

At the back of this device, we have a 13MP main camera with am f/1.8 aperture and PDAF accompanied by three other cameras which include a 5MP ultrawide camera and Two 2MP sensors; a depth sensor and macro sensor.

The rear camera is equipped with am LED flash for low light shots, HDR for good dynamic range and panorama. It also has the ability to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

For selfies, there is a single 8MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperitif that takes care of the job, and just like the rear-facing camera, the front-facing camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps as well.

Hardware and Software

Nokia 5.3 is fitted with the Snapdragon 665 SoC which has an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz alongside an Adreno 601 GPU for games and graphics. This device comes with either 3GB, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, all of which comes with 64GB of internal storage. Thankfully, it also comes with a dedicated microSD slot for additional storage which can accommodate up to 128GB of extra storage.

Keeping with the Nokia tradition, the Nokia 5.3 runs stock Android 10 out of the box with no Skin on top and just the essentials. It is also a part of the Android One project which means that you’re pretty much guaranteed of 2 years worth of software updates and 3 years worth of monthly security patches.

Battery and Connectivity

Nokia 5.3 has a 4,000mAh battery capacity in the inside which keeps the lights on. Unfortunately, charging speeds is capped at 10W which is pretty slow by today’s standards.

Other features of the Nokia 5.3 includes 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, GPS, FM radio and NFC for payments. There is also a 3.5mm jack here which is someone we rarely see on smartphones these days.

Nokia 5.3 is set to retail at $210 when it finally hits the shelves alongside other Nokia smartphones in Q2 as said by HMD. The Nokia 5.3 will cost between N60,000-N70,000 in Nigeria when it finally arrives in the country
