Nokia 8110 4G was announced at the 2018 Mobile World Congress and nicknamed “Banana Phone”. This is like a revival of Nokia’s legendary phone, the 8110 which was popularly known as the “Matrix Phone”.
The 4G version like the name suggests, come with 4G connectivity and ‘No’ it doesn’t run on an Android operating system. It boasts of a WiFi Hotspot as well and rear camera. Without further ado, meet the Nokia 8110 4G.
DESIGN
Nokia is reinventing slides to modern phones, this might make their way to their Android smartphones. To be honest, the yellow version sure looks like a Banana when you pull down its slide cover. According to Nokia, sliding the keypad cover out turns on the screen immediately.
So obviously when you slide it back in place it does the opposite. You can also slide it out to pick up an incoming call immediately. The body was made of plastic, sporting a rear camera, flash and loudspeaker at the rear. By the curved sides, it measures 14.9 mm in thickness and weighs 117g. You can get it in Black and Yellow colours only.
DISPLAY
Sports physical navigation buttons and number keys below the bezel when you slide the cover down. When you slide it up, only the screen is visible. Disappointingly, the display isn’t a touchscreen which is a huge let down in 2018.
Furthermore, the 2.4-inch TFT screen boasts of a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 167 pixels per inch density. The screen dishes out a 4:3 aspect ratio and stretches up to 27.1% screen to body ratio. It’s a bummer to know you have to slide down the cover before navigating on the phone.
HARDWARE and SOFTWARE
Under the hood is the MSM8905 Snapdragon 205 chip from Qualcomm with 2-cores of a processor. The dual-core processor clocks at 1.1GHz, while the Adreno 304 graphics processor from Qualcomm is in charge of graphics.
For multitasking, it boasts of just 512MB RAM, while for storage, 4GB Storage space is available. Whenever you run out of storage, you can always upgrade up to 64GB using a memory card. The 8110 4G runs on KaiOS.
CAMERA
At the back, there’s a 2MP rear camera that comes with a LED flash and other features like Geo-tagging. Don’t expect magic from the camera though, it’s a 2MP camera.
BATTERY
The Nokia 8110 4G is powered by a removable Li-Ion 1500mAh battery, which Nokia claims will last for 25 days on Standby.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
Nokia 8110 4G is available for $89 to $109, that’s about (N25,000 – N35,000).
