ZTE just announced a new gaming smartphone with the name Nubia Red Magic 3 as a successor to the previous Nubia Red Magic Mars with some major improvement to do what it made for – gaming. So right off the bat, we have the flagship Snapdragon 855 Processor with cooling technology, up to 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, 6.65-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 5,000mAh battery with a 27W fast battery charging. Nubia Red Magic 3 Design And Display
Nubia Red Magic 3 has a 6.65-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a pixel per inch density of 388. It uses the 18:9 aspect ratio so no notch here. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch refresh rate and supports HDR10 contents.
It also has a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on top for protection. The body of the device is made of aluminium alloy and comes in colours Black, Red, Blue and Grey.
Thanks to the massive battery on the inside, it weighs 215 grams and measures 9.65mm in thickness. The back of the device has a single camera with an LED flash, a diamond-shaped fingerprint sensor and the Nubia RGB lightning and accents. It has a dual SIM card slot for SIM cards with no MicroSD card slot for additional storage.
Nubia Red Magic 3 Camera Review
As a gaming smartphone, nothing much is going on in the camera department. There are only two cameras here; one on each side. The one at the back is a 48MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture. It also has a dual-LED flash, HDR, PDAF and Panorama. Where the rear camera excels is the video recording where it can record 8k videos at 30fps. You can also shoot 4k videos at 30fps, 1080p videos 60fps and 720p videos at 120fps. The selfie camera is a single 16MP unit with an f/2.0 aperture which can also record 1080p videos at 30fps.
Hardware and Software
Nubia Red Magic 3 being a gaming device runs the best Snapdragon SoC; Snapdragon 855 based on the new 7nm architecture with an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.84GHz alongside an Adreno 640 GPU. The CPU itself has two different cooling solutions to keep it cool during gaming sessions and avoid thermal throttling.
First being the second-generation ICE liquid cooling as a primary cooling and an actual fan inside the device as a secondary Cooling solution that only kicks in when needed. According to ZTE, the fan inside can reduce the phone temperature of up to 16 degrees Celsius so as to keep things cool even in those long gaming sessions.
The device has 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 2133MHz depending on the configuration you opt for. It also has 64GB, 128GB or 256GB storage respectively. No MicroSD card slot here so you’ll have to make do with the Internal storage. It runs the latest Android 9.0 Pie out of the box with Red Magic 2.0 UI which has some few gaming tweaks for optimal gaming performance.
Battery & Network Connectivity
Nubia Red Magic 3 is packed with a massive 5,000mAh battery to keep you going during long gaming sessions. The battery is equipped with a really fast 27W charging through its USB Type-C port which can also be used for file transfer. It also has 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi, WiFi6, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, Bluetooth, GPS, infrared port, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack.
Nubia Red Magic 3 Price and Availability
The 6GB/64GB configuration of this device costs $430 while double the storage (6GB/128GB) goes for $475. Both configurations come in black colour. The 8GB/128GB configuration which comes in both Black and Red cost $520 while the biggest one with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage goes for $640 with a Red-Violent gradient or a Camo finish.
