Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 11nm Soc Launched With Focus on Gaming

Qualcomm has introduced a new chipset, the Snapdragon 675 to target the mobile phone gaming industry. The chipset was unveiled while introducing OnePlus as one of the first companies to implement a 5G smartphone with the new Snapdragon X50 modem.

The Snapdragon 675 chipset comes with new CPU cores, Kryo 460 cores two of which are based on the new Cortex-A76. This will offer a performance boost and a clock speed up to 2 GHz. The Soc which was built on the 11nm technology is an octa-core processor having six of cores based on Cortex A55. The ISP and the GPU still remain the same as in the Snapdragon 670, that is the Adreno 612.

Since the processor is made for gaming, there are a couple of optimizations, which includes engines like Unity, Unreal, Messiah, NeoX. It also has support for APIs like Vulkan, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, and Snapdragon profiler.

The camera aspect has improved as well compared to the SD 670. It supports triple cameras up to 16 MP (or a single shooter with 25 MP sensor) and is AI-powered.

On the connectivity aspect, it supports Bluetooth 5, Dual VoLTE, Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac with MIMO 2×2, all the popular location-based platforms and Cat.12 download speeds up to 600 Mbps. The platform is already available to OEMs and will arrive in consumer devices in early 2019.
