American semiconductor brand Qualcomm is reportedly designing a new flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8150, whose launch is expected to take place by the end of this year. The soon-to-be-released flagship processor will be coming as the successor of the Snapdragon 845, speculated to be dubbed “Snapdragon 8150”, and not “Snapdragon 855”.
The chipset benchmark score of the Snapdragon 8150 has surfaced on the Internet on AnTuTu, ahead of its formal announcement. Earning a record score of 362,292 points on AnTuTu, the chipset has emerged as the first processor to have ever crossed the benchmark of 360,000 points on Android OS.
The score of Kirin 980 chipset, which powers the Huawei Mate 20 series smartphones, pales in comparison with that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 as the latter only managed to earn an average score of 311,840 points. Until now, the highest score recorded by any Snapdragon 845-powered mobile device was obtained by Xiaomi Black Shark Helo, with a score of 301,757 points.
Based on these results, it seems this Snapdragon 8150 chipset is offering 16% improved performance when compared to the Kirin 980 and 20% greater performance than the Snapdragon 845 — its predecessor.
The Snapdragon 8150 is anticipated to feature three-cluster CPU core design, which bears similarities to the Huawei Kirin 980 and Samsung Exynos 9820. It will come with one large performance core clocked at 2.84 gigahertz, three medium cores that run at a clock speed of 2.4 gigahertz, along with four small efficiency cores which are clocked at 1.78 gigahertz.
Though the upcoming chipset is expected to be released by December, the phones that will be running on it are anticipated to be launched from the first half of next year. Meizu is rumored to be one of the first brands to launch products that will be powered by SD8150 SoC.
