Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi are officially into the laptop business with the release of a gaming laptop. The Redmi G was unveiled in China and is said to be affordable.
The laptop is built around a 16.1-inch display. The top bezel is extremely thin that the company had to move the webcam to the bottom bezel, which is kind of weird in terms of positioning. The display features a 1080p resolution, sRGB coverage and supports 144Hz refresh rate.
The Redmi G gaming laptop is powered by three different Intel hardware with different price tags. The Intel Core i5-10200H powered laptop with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU costs $760. The Intel Core i5-10300H CPU with GTX 1650 Ti option is priced at $900. The top-tier model which costs $1,000 is powered by Intel Core i7-10750H with GTX 1650 Ti.
It comes as a surprise to see the laptop with a 55Wh battery especially with its power-draining hardware. The battery capacity can only last up to 5.5 hours of light or normal usage. This means that if you should use this laptop for gaming which is its intended purpose, it won’t last up to 2.5 or even 3 hours.
Speaking of gaming, the Redmi G laptop comes with two big cooling vents and three separate heat pipes. This combo promises exceptional cooling performance. Each side of the gaming laptop has exhaust vents and also on the back.
The Redmi G laptop is rumoured to have a plastic body build even though it looks sharp and sleek in design. It has a big touchpad and still manage to have the usual gaming aesthetics.
Launching date for this affordable gaming laptop is on August 17. Pre-order is already ongoing in China.
