Tech giant Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus yesterday ahead of the 2018 Mobile World Congress starting today. The phone is undoubtedly the most talked about device of the first quarter of 2018.

Furthermore, it’s the leading smartphone that was expected during the MWC2018 and it came early. However, it won’t be available for sale until March but nonetheless, the specs were made available by Samsung at the Unpacked Event. Without further ado, meet the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Samsung Galaxy S9 DESIGN

Made from Aluminium Alloy, the Galaxy S9 is truly a masterpiece. The stunning device looks like the Galaxy S8, but its rear features are not the same. The fingerprint scanner is now under the rear camera, which will be very easy to access without looking at the back.

A dual-LED flash sits right beside the rear camera, while the Samsung logo is at its usual position. Protecting the back is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5, the device is IP68 certified offering both dust and water resistant. Turning to the sides, it measures 8.5mm in thickness and weighs 165g overall. The S9 is available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray and Lilac Purple.

DISPLAY

It has more screen to body ratio than its predecessor, boasting of an impressive 84.8%. The bottom bezel is almost totally gone, while the top bezel houses the selfie camera, ambient light sensor and speaker grille.

The 5.8-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ capacitive touchscreen boasts of a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. The details on the screen should come out really great with a pixel per inch density standing at 570. Another Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen offering scratch and water resistant.

HARDWARE and SOFTWARE

Under the Galaxy S9 is the Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor that clocks at 2.7 GHz for China and US versions. While the global version houses the Exynos 9810 chip from Samsung with Octa-core processor.

It reaches a clock speed of 2.8 GHz and has the Mali-G72 MP18 graphics processor. While the China and US version has the Adreno 630 graphics processor. For multitasking, it has 4GB of RAM while for storage there are three versions (64GB/128GB/256GB). You can upgrade the space further if you want with a memory card. The Galaxy S9 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

CAMERA

The 12MP rear shooter on this device has an aperture of f/1.5 and 1.4 µm pixel size. It captures 4K resolution images and videos, the dual-LED flash beside it should bring out your photographs in a low light environment.

With the Galaxy S9, you can record videos of 2160 pixels at 60 frames per second, 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second and 720 pixels at 90 frames per second. For selfies, the 8MP front shooter has a f/1.7 aperture for stunning selfies.

Samsung Galaxy S9 will be available for about $899 from March, that’s about (N300,000 – N320,000) in Nigeria, GH₵ 3 999 in Ghana and KSh 88,999 in Kenya.
