Samsung released the successor to last year’s China-only clamshell smartphone – the W2018 with the new Samsung W2019 not long ago. The new Samsung W2019 still follows
the tradition of its predecessor with some similarities like the dual AMOLED display and a clamshell build. Let’s take a look at more of their similarities as well their differences – hopefully, upgrades.
Samsung W2019 VS Samsung W2018 – Design & Display
Everything in the design and display segment is pretty much the same. Last year’s W2018 has a dual 4.2 AMOLED display with a 16:9 aspect ratio while the W2019 also has a dual 4.2 Super AMOLED display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. On both devices, One display is visible when the clamshell is closed and when opened, you’re greeted with yet another display with keys/button Below it.

The W2018 comes in colour black with limited-edition Silver and Gold colour options while the W2019 has the Gold and Silver colour options as its standard colours. On the body of the W2019, the side actually, is a Fingerprint Sensor for biometric authentication/verifications. There is also a dedicated button to wake up Samsung’s own AI assistant – Bixby. Bixby is also on last year’s W2018 but there is no dedicated button for it and no fingerprint sensor.
Samsung W2019 VS Samsung W2018 – Hardware & Software
W2018 has a Snapdragon 835 SoC with 6GB Of RAM and two storage options of 64GB and 256GB. W2019, on the other hand, took things up a notch with the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with the same 6GB of RAM. Storage options also went up a little with either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Since this is a China-only device, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on the W2018 and the Android 8.1 Oreo on the W2019 lacks Google services.
Camera, Battery & Connectivity
The W2018 has a single rear 12MP camera with f/1.5 aperture, at the front is a 5MP camera f/1.9 aperture for selfies. W2019, on the other hand, has a dual 12MP camera with a secondary telephoto camera. For selfies, there is an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Battery capacity also got a major upgrade from the 2,300mAh battery on the W2018 to the 3,070mAh battery on the W2019. Both batteries on both devices are being charged through the USB Type-C port.
Samsung W2019 VS Samsung W2018 – Price
The price of both devices makes them a luxury device with a starting price of over $2000 for the Samsung W2018 and as high as $2700 for the Samsung W2019.
Obviously, the one to buy would be the latest W2019 smartphone but if the price is a deciding factor for you and you don’t care about the better camera, new chipset, a fingerprint sensor and a dedicated button to wake Bixby then you can simply opt for the W2018.
