Sony Xperia 1 III and 5 III debuts with 120Hz displays

Japanese smartphone maker Sony has announced three new Xperia smartphones at an event. The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are the two highlights of the event. Both flagship device comes with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The OLED display of the Xperia 1 III measures 6.5″ with 4K resolution, 21:9 aspect ratio and HDR. Whereas, the Xperia 5 III has a small 6.1″ OLED panel with FHD resolution, HDR and 21:9 aspect ratio.

The only difference in the camera department is the 3D ToF lens which is exclusive to the Xperia 1 III. Aside from that, there are three cameras left in the module – a 12MP f/1.7 main camera with OIS, a 12MP f/2.3-2.8 telephoto camera and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera. The telephoto camera switches its aperture depending on the focal length and OIS. The front camera uses an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Underneath both phones is the Snapdragon 888 chipset. On the Xperia 1 III, the chip is paired a 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB storage. While on the Xperia 5 III, it is paired with 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.

The battery capacity on both Sony phones is 4,500 mAh with a 30W fast charging support. The Xperia 1 III will support wireless charging and comes in Frosted Black, Frosted Purple and Frosted Gray. Whereas, the Xperia 5 III has Black, Pink and Green body colour options. According to the company, both phones will be available this summer with price confirmation expected soon.
