TECNO Camon CM VS Camon CX: Which to Buy?

Tecno Camon CM VS Camon CX: Tecno’s selfie-focused series “Camon” adds new smartphones to its family. In this review, the Tecno Camon CX will be going head to head with the new Camon CM. The new Camon CM was launched in Lagos, Nigeria on the 9th of January. The Camon CX has been ascertained to be the best Camon smartphone, but its reign is almost over.

The new Camon CM boasts of a bezel-less display, the first ever from Tecno. Launched in January 2018, the new device sports an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 13MP crystal clear selfie camera.

They are both amazing devices no doubt, but which one is better? Which one has a better selfie camera? Before you buy any of these selfie-focused smartphones, you need to know which one is better. Stay with me let’s compare these two beauties together.

TECNO Camon CM VS Camon CX

The Design

You can’t differentiate the two devices from the back, as they both look kinda identical from a distance. The fingerprint scanner and the Tecno Logo are still in the same place on both devices. Even the rear camera on both devices is identically placed at the top left corner.

The only major difference at the back is the antenna line. We all know the antenna lines on the Camon CX were straight. But the new Camon CM sports a curved dual antenna line. The Camon CM also measures 7.75mm slim just like the Camon CX.

Overall the Camon CM has a far better design, even though they both look quite similar. The sleek curved edges on the CM are quite stunning and more catchy.

The DISPLAY

I think we already know the winner of this category but let’s back it up with facts. The Camon CM sports a bigger 5.65-inch Full Vision near the bezel-less display. Which is bigger than the 5.5-inch on the Tecno CX. The Camon CM has few side bezels and fewer overall bezels than the Camon CX.

Surprisingly the screen resolution on the Camon CX is much higher with 1920 x 1080 pixels. While the screen resolution of the Camon CM is pegged at 720 x 1440 pixels. Nevertheless, both screens are quite competitive with each other, as they both have over 400ppi density.

Overall the bezel-less display on the Camon CM might be very attractive. But the details on the screen won’t be as sharp as the Camon CX.

Also, they both have a 2.5D glass at the front but the Camon CM has a corny gorilla glass 3 as protection. The Camon CX does not come with any form of protection.

The CAMERA

The Camon CX is equipped with a 16MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture. While the Camon CM has a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture. Now that’s a downgrade, even though both devices take high-resolution images. The Camon CX camera is still better.

The Camon CX wins again in the selfie battery, thanks to its 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. While the new Camon CM sports a 13MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Not sure if this is supposed to be an upgrade or a cheaper variant. But the camera on the Camon CM doesn’t stand a chance with the camera on the Camon CX. When we finally lay our hands on the device, we will put the camera to the test.

Hardware And Software

The Camon CM houses a Mediatek MTK6737h chipset with Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor. While the Camon CX houses a MediaTek MT6750T chipset with an Octa-core 1.5GHz processor. This means the Camon CX is obviously faster and executes tasks much faster.

In terms of internal storage and RAM, they both have the same 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage space. They both run smoothly on Android 7.0 Nougat with HiOS skin on top.

I will take an Octa-core processing smartphone over a Quad-core processing smartphone any day.

The BATTERY

Another sweet victory for the Camon CX, thanks to its 3200mAh battery. Which should last longer than the 3000mAh battery on the Camon CM.

Price Comparison

The new Camon CM goes for N47,000 while the Camon CX goes for N53,000 on Jumia. Well, I think it’s safe to say the CM isn’t an upgrade to the CX. Just a way for Tecno to test the trending bezel-less display before introducing it to their Phantom flagship series.

CONCLUSION

Tecno got our attention this new year with the bezel-less hype. But is this device an upgrade to the Camon CX or a downgrade? Apart from the Bezel-less display and the attractive design, the Camon CX is still one of the best Camon smartphones to date and is therefore common sense that Tecno might release an upgrade to the CX soon.
