TECNO Spark 2 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A specs comparison is about to begin. The TECNO Spark 2 will be going against Xiaomi’s best selling smartphone this year, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A. These smartphones have a lot in common, they’re both budget-friendly and offers great value for money.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A has been quite a trend on shopping stores these past couples of months. While the Spark 2 just came out days ago with its full view screen. But which of these devices give great value for money? Which one has the best display screen? Which one has the best camera? We’ll be finding out in a bit.

The Note 5A is absolutely stunning no doubt, it has a Polycarbonate body and has been rated as one of the best-looking smartphones for its price. It has dual antenna lines as well, which makes it even more attractive. While the Spark 2 was designed with a polished plastic and looks absolutely stunning with the curved antenna line. The Spark 2 also comes with a fingerprint scanner, a feature we couldn’t find on the Note 5A.

The camera and LED flash on the Spark 2 are in a vertical position, whereas the camera and LED flash on the Note 5A are in a horizontal position, with the LED flash coming first. The Note 5A sports its loudspeakers at the rear, while the Spark 2 has it underneath. The Note 5A is quite bulky, measuring 8.4mm in thickness, while the Spark 2 is very slim measuring just 7.5mm in thickness.

The Spark 2 gives you a modern 6-inch HD+ bezel-less screen, this boasts of 1440 x 720 pixels in resolution and 268 pixels per inch density. As we can see on the front of the Spark 2, it has super minimal bezels, allowing the screen to dish out an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Note 5A on the other hand sports a smaller 5.5-inch HD screen with 720 x 1280 pixels in resolution and 296 pixels per inch density. However, the Note 5A has lots of bezels and three physical buttons at the bottom bezel.

The screen also exudes a 16:9 aspect ratio and stretches up to 69.1% screen-to-body ratio. Brightness wise, the Spark 2 is the best-looking smartphone here with its impressive 500nit as against the Redmi Note 5A which is less than 400nit

The Spark 2 takes beautiful photos with its 13MP rear camera that has f/2.2 aperture, the camera comes with a triple-LED flash for night photography. While the Note 5A houses a 13MP rear shooter as well with f/2.2 aperture lens and a LED flash as well. Both of the cameras come with a lot of features as well.

For taking selfies, the Note 5A uses the 5MP selfie camera at the top bezel to take beautiful looking selfies even in low light environments. Whereas the Spark 2 captures your face with its 8MP selfie shooter which comes with a dual LED flash and supports Face ID, a feature that’s not on the Note 5A.

TECNO’s Spark 2 houses the MediaTek MT6580WP chip with Quad-Core processor clocking at the speed of 1.3GHz, while the Note 5A is powered by the Snapdragon 425 chip from Qualcomm which is more power efficient and clocks at a faster speed of 1.4GHz.

The Spark 2 comes with just 1GB of RAM for multitasking, it should run smoothly on the Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition. The Note 5A packs a bigger 2GB of RAM but runs on an older Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with MIUI 9.0. For storing files, the same 16GB storage space is available on both with an option to expand further. Despite running on Android Nougat, the Redmi Note 5A should perform better than the Spark 2 in terms of performance.

The Note 5A is powered by a 3000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery, this doesn’t support fast charging. While the Spark 2 gets its power from a 3500mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with no fast charging support as well.

The Note 5A retails for about N30,990 on shopping stores, while the Spark 2 retails between N36,000 to N36,200. The Spark 2 is very expensive for a smartphone with just 1GB of RAM, but we have to keep in mind the features it comes with.

 CONCLUSION

If you’re getting a budget smartphone because of the performance then the Note 5A should do the trick. However, if you want to experience trending features like Face ID, bezel-less screen and fingerprint scanner, then the Spark 2 should be your device of choice.
