Meet TECNO T901: First TECNO Smart Feature Phone to run WhatsApp

Tecno T901 is a smart feature phone that TECNO recently introduced into the mobile phone market and unlike other feature phones out there, this one comes with a twist.

For starters, it is able to run one of the most popular mobile messaging app called WhatsApp, all thanks to it running the KaiOS.

It has a small 2.4-inch display, a Unisoc SC7731EF Chipset, 512MB of RAM, 256MB of internal storage with a microSD card slot and a 1,900mAh battery capacity to keep the lights on.

 Design And Display

Tecno T901 looks like any other feature phone out there with its bar design and a rear camera at the back accompanied by an LED flash, then at the front is the usual buttons at the bottom half and the display in the top half with the Tecno name written at the middle. The front-facing camera is located at the top of the device design like pretty much every other phone.

As expected of a feature phone the whole body is made of plastic and weighs just 91grams. However, it is a little thick measuring 10.4mm in thickness. Not much colours options to choose from here as it comes in only Black, Blue and Gold. It also has a dual SIM card slot and q dedicated microSD card slot if you are looking to add more storage to the device.

Camera Review

Tecno T901 has what I could call a pretty standard camera setup for a feature phone. At the back is a 1.3MP camera with an LED flash for low light photos while there is a 0.3MP shooter at the front just above the display for selfies which doesn’t have its own LED flash. Both cameras can be used for taking photos and recording videos.

Software

Tecno went with a Unisoc SC7731EF SoC which has a Quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with a Mali T820 MP1 GPU for graphics. It has 512GB of RAM and 256MB of internal storage which isn’t much by today’s smartphone standards but is more than enough to run the KaiOS it comes with.

The KaiOS it runs also allows this device to run WhatsApp. There is also a dedicated microSD card slot on board so you can expand the storage even further, up to 32GB.

Battery and Connectivity

A 1,900mAh battery powers this device and is more than enough to keep this device running for a day or two, depending on the usage of course.

No fast charging, WiFi or 4G LTE connectivity here as expected. However, it does have 3G which is your ticket to the internet. It also has Bluetooth 3.0, FM radio built-in and a micro-USB port for charging the phone and also transferring files to and from the device, both through using a USB cable.
