Transsion, the company behind Tecno, Infinix, and Itel, is now the world’s 5th largest Smartphone maker. The smartphone brand shipped over 22 million phones in the Q2 of 2023 and 9% total market share in that period.
Canalys, leading Industry analyst, “Transsion Group (includes Tecno, Infinix, and Itel brands), benefiting from recovery opportunities in the African market and other emerging markets they recently expanded into, leaped into the top five for the first time and shipped 22.7 million units, experiencing 22% annual growth.”
Transsion group is locking horns with significant smartphone brands like Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, and Oppo to occupy the top five spot. They have a 9% total share of the market, with Samsung leading with 21% and Apple in second place with 17%.
Brief History of Transsion Group
Transsion was launched in 2006, and it started from humble beginnings by venturing into the African continent. They launched feature phones with long battery life and could carry dual sim cards. The company immediately identified and solved the continent’s problems with its feature phones.
Their phones were affordable, and it led to creating a massive customer base on the continent. Fast forward to today, they are the biggest in the continent with a cult following on the continent. Recently the brand has moved into some Asian and South American countries, trying to compete with dominant brands.
They released their first Foldable phone, the Tecno Phantom V Fold, in 2023, and it has the largest battery life on a foldable. It is also the most affordable foldable phone when writing this report. It shows that Tecno is ready to compete at the highest stage, and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes them.
