Xaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite: Review, Full Specs and Price

Xaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite Review

Xaomi just released their new selfie-focused series, Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite for those on a budget. The series was solely built to dominate the selfie market, thanks to its 16MP front shooter. Although if you decide to get the Y1 Lite, the front camera packs just 5MP.

Xaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite DESIGN

The Redmi Y1 is definitely a beauty, it looks like Apple’s iPhone 6. At the back, you can spot two lines, one at the top and one at the bottom. With the fingerprint sensor placed strategically at the middle.

It features the 2.5D curved glass design with an aluminium and metal cover. Although the Lite model doesn’t come with 2.5D curved glass. The Redmi Y1 Lite weighs just 150g and is 7.55mm thick, while the Redmi Y1 weighs just 153 grams and has 7.7mm thickness.

Xaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite DISPLAY

Xaomi Redmi Y1 sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 91.6% screen-to-body ratio. With 720x1280pixels resolution and pixel per inch density being as high as 236. Redmi Y1 is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Although the Lite version has 71.5% screen-to-body ratio and a higher 267 pixel per inch. The navigation buttons were placed physically on the body and not on the screen. Overall the display on the Redmi Y1 is not too bad for a midrange device.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

This was meant to be a selfie-focused smartphone, but it looks like Xaomi focused on the hardware too. It packs the Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435, with Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53. In terms of RAM and internal storage, there are 3 versions, so whatever your financial status maybe, you can get your hands on the Redmi Y1.

There’s the 64GB internal storage/4GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage/3GB of RAM and the Lite version which packs 16GB internal storage and 2GB of RAM. Of course, they can all be upgraded to 256GB with microSD. Xaomi Redmi Y1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS with the new MIUI 9.0 skin.
