After weeks of speculation, Xiaomi Mi 9 has finally been unveiled today. This is the company’s first phone with a triple camera and fastest wireless charging.
Even though the previous Redmi note 7 made use of the Samsung 48MP sensor. The new Mi 9 came with 48MP module camera, a Sony IMX586 with a quad Bayer filter. It also came with a big ½ inch sensor with 0.8µm pixels which might be combined into 1.6µm superpixels.
When it comes to the camera, the device came with a 16MP ultra-wide camera with 117 – inch field of view. The previous Mi 8 did not come with an ultra-wide camera. But Xiaomi decided to upgrade the camera of the Mi 9. The device came with 1.0µm pixels and an f/2.2 lens with autofocus. With that, you can shoot macrons from 4cm distance.
The Mi 9 came with a 6.39 inches super AMOLED panel with 1080-pixel resolution. And the device features a smaller waterdrop notch. Maybe that’s why Xiaomi claimed 90.7% screen to body ratio. Also, the brightness of the screen in high mode can reach 600nits. But you can use dark mode to reduce the power usage by up to 83%. To spruce up the look of the device, the on – display now have support for a colourful pattern.
The 20MP selfie camera (f/2.0, 0.9µm) in the smaller notch requires modification. There will be Al powered face unlock in some of the regions. The distortion in the ultra – wide camera is been reduced by the Al and this will help you to switch between cameras when it thinks that you can get a better shot.
The device also came with another set of biometric un-lock option which is the in-display fingerprint reader. Thanks to the NFC connectivity which will allow you to use it with google play.
The device features a gorilla glass 6 but the back of the device features gorilla glass 5. With the sapphire glass lens cover, you will have all the protection that you need for the triple camera. Sadly, the device lacks water resistance protection.
The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. It comes with 6GB RAM and you can choose between 64GB or 128GB internal storage. And for smoother game experience, the Game Turbo mode will tune the CPU and GPU to give you better game experience. The device came with 3,300mAh which is 100mAh lesser when compared to the Mi 8.
The Mi 9 also features a transparent version which will only be available in China. The version will come with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. And the variants of the device will use the Xiao Al in China instead of the google assistant.
The device will come with three colour variant’s – Lavender Violet, Ocean Blue and Piano Black. AS for the price, the 6/128GB variant will be sold for CYN2,999 ($455/€395). The 8GB/128GB variant will be sold for CYN3,299($490/€430) while the transparent version with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage will be sold for CYN3,999($595/€525).
