Redmi – now a sub-brand of Xioami – has just released a new smartphone; Redmi Go. Redmi Go is the first Xioami smartphone to run the Go Edition of the Android operating system. Evidently, the Redmi Go is a budget device but surprisingly packs quite a punch for its a price tag of less than $100. Let’s dive a little deeper into its specifications.
Design And Display
Xiaomi Redmi Go has a rather weird look for a smartphone released in 2019. The device has a 5.0inch display, a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (294ppi) and an 18:9 aspect ratio with lots of bezels at the top and bottom. The device’s back is made of plastic as expected and has only one camera with an LED flash at the back. The fingerprint sensor is also nowhere to be found at this device’s back and there is no FaceID either. The Xiaomi Redmi Go weighs just 137grams but measures 8.4mm in thickness. Colour options available here are just Blue and Black.
Xiaomi Redmi Go Camera Review
There are just two cameras on the Redmi Go – one at the back and one at the front. The front facing camera is a 5MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture while the rear camera an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture equipped with AF, HDR and an LED flash for low light shots. The rear camera can also record 720p videos at 30fps.
Hardware and Software
Redmi Go Uses the Snapdragon 425 SoC – a 28nm based 4-core processor with clock speeds of up to 1.4GHz, which is now paired with an Adreno 308 GPU for gaming. The only configuration available comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Storage space is expandable via the onboard dedicated MicroSD card slot of up to 128GB. Redmi Go runs the Go Edition of Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. With MIUI 10 on top of course.
Battery & Network Connectivity
A 3,000mAh battery keeps the light on the Redmi Go turned on. Not fast charging obviously. However, it does have 4G LTE connectivity, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio and a micro USB port for file transfer and charging.
Xiaomi Redmi Go Price and Availability
Xiaomi Redmi Go costs just $90 and although it isn’t available for sale yet, it is expected to be in the coming weeks.
