YouTube Reels unveiled as “stories” on the video sharing platform

YouTube has finally joined the stories trend with a new feature for creators called “Reels”. This is YouTube’s unofficial spin from the popular stories trend we have seen on most social media platforms. The feature was first popularized by Snapchat, before Instagram ran with it, we now use it on WhatsApp too.

According to YouTube, the new feature is an expansion to bring creators and fans together more intimately. So creators can now post updates and snippets of videos with their fans before the official release.

But unlike what we have seen on Snapchat, WhatsApp and Instagram. YouTube Reels will not necessarily disappear after 24 hours, creators can keep it till whenever they like. The stories can be organized and arranged into projects and events for fans to view later.

You subscribers would be able to view your current and past stories. You can easily compile all story clips in one single collection for easy viewing. Stories can also be linked to your videos, but don’t get too excited. Creators must have at least 10,000 YouTube subscribers to use the new feature.

YouTube reels

This is definitely a new twist to the trending stories that expire after 24 hours, but you get to keep them for as long as you want. According to the video sharing giant, they realized many creators use Snapchat and Instagram to tell their fans what they have been up to. Well with YouTube Reels, Creators are will update their fans on the site before posting official videos. This is definitely a great way to get more content from creators, as lots of YouTube Reels will be shared.
