Breaking: Upcoming Huawei Mate 30 banned from Using Google Apps

Google has confirmed that the US ban will affect the upcoming Huawei Mate 30. This means the flagship device won’t feature any Google app and services.

This is a piece of strange news considering the fact that Huawei has a 90-day trade exception license. According to multiple reports, the trade exception offered by the US government is only applicable to existing products and deal with partnerships between Huawei and other US companies. This means the trade exception does not cover any new collaboration. And the Huawei Mate 30 is a new smartphone.

There is still a way to work around this for both Huawei and Google. The search giant can seek an exemption from the ban. The US Commerce Department has a plan to issue special licenses to US companies to enable them to continue their trade with Huawei.

The downside to this plan is that only components that do not pose a threat to US national security and widely available will be eligible. So, even if Google get this license, it may not be all their apps and services that get featured in the Huawei Mate 30.

Sometime in August, Huawei officially announced its own operating system – HarmonyOS. The operating system is open-source which will definitely entice developers.

If in the end, the Mate 30 doesn’t feature any Google apps or services, Huawei might simply load the device with their own HarmonyOS. However, this move can affect Huawei’s world market share. Most people may not be happy using a smartphone without basic Android apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, Photos, Playstore e.t.c.

The Huawei Mate 30 is expected to arrive in late September. This news could affect the arrival of this flagship smartphone.
