Design and Display

It has an aluminium alloy overall unibody that’s quite exquisite and will feel premium when held. This should be a pleasure to hold of course and quite a delight to flaunt. The dual curved antenna lines reached a joint and met as well.

The placement of features isn’t as unique as expected, the rear camera starts a vertical train at the top followed by a LED flash, then the fingerprint scanner completes it. Turning to the sides, it measures just 8mm in thickness and weighs 170g overall.

Cubot Nova

Just like most of the new Cubot smartphone, they all ship with the 18:9 aspect ratio screen. The Nova didn’t disappoint in that aspect, it dishes out immersive visuals with its bezel-less screen. Playing games and videos will be more fun.

The 5.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen displays amazingly well for a budget smartphone. It boasts of 1440 x 720 pixels in resolution and 293 pixels per inch density. The screen stretches up to 78% screen-to-body ratio.

Hardware and Software

The MediaTek MT6739 chip runs the show underneath, the chip comes with its 28nm process technology. It boasts of Quad-core processor clocking at a smooth speed of 1.3GHz, while the PowerVR GE8100 clocks at 570MHz.

Cubot integrated a bigger 3GB RAM space here because of the Android 8.1 Oreo, even though the RAM reaches a slow speed of 667MHz. The storage space is pegged at 16GB but you can upgrade up to 128GB using a memory card.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a 13MP rear camera which takes photographs in 0.2s. The camera boasts of advanced image algorithm that helps you blur background without needing a second sensor. While the 8MP selfie camera is perfect for portrait selfies with beautify Mode.

Network and Connectivity

The Nova supports dual 4G LTE connectivity on both Nano SIMs. It also has support for Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm jack, USB port, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot and A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS.

The Cubot Nova is powered by a removable Li-Ion 2800mAh battery with no fast charging technology. Cubot Nova will be available on shopping stores from August, starting from $89 to $139, that’s about (N30,000 – N50,000).
