Copy and paste is one of the most basic and most commonly used features of any device or PC. It’s actually hard to imagine being able to use a computer without copy and paste. Share once you’ve copied text, pasting it isn’t the only thing you can do. You might prefer to share it with another app — Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media or Evernote, for instance. To do that, select the text you want to share and tap Share in the pop-up menu. This reveals the sharing sheet at the bottom of the screen {as if you tapped the box with the arrow coming out of it} and the other apps you can share to

How to Copy and Paste

You access the copy and paste commands through a pop-up menu. Not every app supports copy and paste, but many do. To get the pop-up menu to appear, tap on a word or area of the screen and hold your finger on the screen until a window appears that magnifies the text you selected (if your phone has a 3D Touchscreen, tap lightly and hold, rather than pressing hard). When it shows up, you can remove your finger.

When you do, the copy and paste menu appears and the word or section of text you tapped is highlighted. Depending on the app you’re using and what kind of content you’re copying, you may have slightly different options when the menu appears.

There are two options for selecting text.

  • When typing, double-tap on a word, or when reading a static text, such as on a website, tap and hold a word. This highlights the word in blue and shows the Copy or Cut options.
  • To select more text, tap and hold the blue dots either side of the word and drag in that direction. Once you let go, the Copy or Cut options will appear.
  • To paste this selection elsewhere, navigate to the app you want to paste the text into, such as such as Mail or Notes, and tap once to reveal the Paste option. Tap this and the last thing you copied or cut will appear.
