HTC finally goes bezel-less with the U11 Plus

The HTC U11 Plus is the first near bezel-less smartphone from the Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer. The new U11 Plus device sports a 6-inch Super LCD screen and a screen resolution of 1440×2880 pixels protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Although there are still pretty little bezels if you look closely, but this is a major improvement over the HTC U11 earlier released. I’m guessing this should be as close as HTC fans would get to owning a bezel-less phone.

The HTC U11 Plus has no physical buttons, so the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back. The company ditched the trending dual rear cameras, as they opted for a single rear camera. The 12MP UltraPixel 3 OIS camera on the back comes with a f/1.7 aperture, UltraSpeed autofocus, and a dual-LED flash.

The selfie camera is an 8MP resolution with an 85-degree field-of-view, f/2.0 aperture, and 1080p video recording. The U11 Plus is also IP68-certified which means its water-resistant and can go under 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Amazing right?

I think that’s one of its selling point, the body! It’s almost bezel-less, it has a pretty all-round body with classy design and a glossy “Liquid Surface” back. It is available in Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver and Translucent Black. Which are pretty amazing colours on a smartphone?

In terms of what’s the HTC U11 Plus has, it houses a Snapdragon 835 chipset, with options of either 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage or 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, depending on the region. Although all device has a microSD card slot too to expand the storage. Also depending on where you buy it from, some models are dual-SIM enabled, while others are not.

The device is powered by a 3,930mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The HTC U11 Plus runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS with HTC Sense OS on top. The Edge Sense functionality also allows you squeeze the phone to launch features.

The U11 Plus measures 158.5 x 74.9 x 8.5 mm in dimension and weighs 188g. It supports Cat.15 LTE connectivity, with maximum peak download speeds reaching 800Mbps and uploads reaching 150Mbps. I guess we weren’t expecting it to have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it doesn’t. It has the latest Bluetooth 5.0v companied with Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, NFC and GLONASS.

Pricing will start from €799 in Europe. The U11 Plus will be sold in “selected markets around the world”, it’s not yet available in North America.
