Huawei Honor Magic 2 VS Lenovo Z5 Pro which one to buy?

The Huawei Honor Magic 2 and Lenovo Z5 Pro both sports the same slider which houses the front-facing cameras, thereby making more room for an actual full display to be achieved. Both devices which will be going head to head here also have an under display fingerprint sensor. Let’s see what else they both have in common, what sets them apart and most importantly, which one to buy between the two.

The design, as well as display on both devices, are pretty much the same with a slider that houses the front-facing camera on both devices. They both have a 6.39-inch screen, However, the Lenovo Z5 uses a super AMOLED display while the Honor magic 2 uses an AMOLED display.

Nevertheless, both devices have the same screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and a pixel per inch density of 403. The Lenovo Z5 Pro weighs 210 grams and has a thickness of 9.3mm which is a bit heavier and thicker than the Honor Magic 2’s 206-gram weight and 8.3 thickness. Honor Magic 2 comes in two colours – Blue and Purple while Lenovo Z5 pro comes in only Black.

On the Huawei Honor Magic 2, we have the all new Kirin 980 clocking a higher speed of 2.6GHz compared to the Snapdragon 710 on the Lenovo Z5 Pro which clocks speeds of up to 2.2GHz. Mali-G76 MP10 takes charge of the GPU on the Honor Magic 2 while Adreno 616 does the job on the Lenovo Z5 Pro.

Honor Magic 2 has two RAM options – 6GB & 8GB. The 6GB RAM is paired with a 64GB internal storage while the bigger 8GB RAM is paired with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Lenovo Z5 Pro, on the other hand, has only 6GB of RAM and is paired with either a 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

On the Software front, the Lenovo Z5 Pro is lacking behind with ZUI 10 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo while the Honor Magic 2 is packing a more up-to-date Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top.

Honor Magic 2 Packs Six cameras – three up front and another three at the back. The three at the back comprises of a 16MP main shooter with a 16MP and 24MP secondary camera with f/2.0, f/2.4 and f/2.4 aperture respectively along with an LED flash for low light photos. At the front, is yet another triple camera setup of a 16MP main camera with f/2.0 and another two 2MP + 2MP secondary camera, both with f/2.4 aperture.

Lenovo Z5, on the other hand, kept things moderate with a dual rear camera setup of 16MP + 24MP camera with f/1.8 and f/2.8 aperture respectively. At the front are also two cameras, the 16MP main shooter with f/2.2 aperture and another 8MP camera.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro despite weighing more lacks in the battery department with a 3,350mAh capacity and fast charging while the Honor Magic 2 has a 3,500mAh battery with an impressive 40W fast battery charging. Connectivity on both devices is somewhat the same with 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB on the Go all available on both devices. However, the USB Type-C carries a version 2.0 on the Lenovo Z5 Pro while the Honor Magic 2 has a version 3.1 USB Type-C.

Pricing for the Honor Magic 2 starts at $547 for the 6GB/64GB configuration while it can go as high as $687 for the 8GB/256GB configuration. Lenovo Z5 Pro, on the other hand, starts at $285 for the 6GB/64GB and about $350 for the 6GB/128GB option.

Merely looking at the specs will tell you the Lenovo Z5 Pro is no match for the Honor Magic 2. However, if you’re on a budget and still want to get a taste of the slider then Lenovo Z5 Pro is yours. If you have the money, then you can as well go all out for the Honor Magic 2 whose Kirin 980 chipset performs more than the Snapdragon 845.
