Huawei launches Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro with Kirin 990 SoC and 40MP camera

The Chinese tech company, Huawei have launched their new Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in Munich, Germany. The Mate 30 series will succeed last year’s impressive Mate 20 series.

Both Mate phones come with HiSilicon Kirin 990 SoC which supports 5G modem. The 990 chip is built on 7nm and features four cores of Cortex-A76 and four cores of Cortex-A55.

They both run on Android 10 OS coated with EMUI 10 skin. As you may have known, Huawei has an ongoing dispute with the US government. This has led to Google withdrawing their support for Huawei new smartphones. Both Mate 30 phones lack Google support and services i.e no Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Chrome, Playstore e.t.c.

The device sport a curved display that features a 6.62-inch OLED screen. The display features 1,080 x 2,340 pixels resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The rear camera of the Mate 30 consist of a 48MP f/1.8 wide sensor, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto sensor and a 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor. Camera features include Lazer AF, Leica optics, dual-LED dual-tone flash, panorama, HDR, OIS, 3x optical zoom e.t.c. The Mate 30 packs a 4,200 mAh battery and supports 40W fast battery charging. There is also a 27 wireless charging feature and can also do reverse charging.

The Huawei next-gen device will be available for purchase this October in China. The 6GB RAM base model will start at $884/€800. There is also an 8GB RAM version.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The Pro version comes with a smaller screen size than the base version. The screen measures 6.53-inch and uses OLED technology. The features of the display are 1176 x 2400 pixels resolution, 18.5:9 ratio and 409 PPI density.

The Mate 30 Pro features a quad camera at the back arranged in a 2 by 2 grid enclosed in a circular module. The first two are 40MP wide and 8MP telephoto sensors just like on Mate 30. Then we have a 40MP ultrawide sensor as the third and a 3D TOF camera. Upfront, the Mate 30 Pro sports two cameras. It has a 32MP wide-angle and 3D TOF cameras.

The smartphone will be available in both 4G and 5G connectivity variants. The 4G model with 8/256GB memory will cost $1,216/€1,100. While the 5G model with same memory option will cost $1,326/€1,200. So to get the 5G connectivity, you have to pay an extra $110/€100.
