Get to know the difference between iPhone Xs VS iPhone XR. Apple unveiled the iPhone Xs and iPhone XR recently, the XR (pronounced “10 R”) was the watered-down variant of the flagship smartphones. Now, how much of a downgrade is the XR compared to the iPhone XS?

The iPhone XS is, of course, the upgraded variant of last year’s iPhone X. The iPhone XS (pronounced “10 S”) and the XR have a lot in common when you see them from afar. They both come with the trendy notched screen. Let’s find out if there are a few similarities or differences here.

From the back, you might think there isn’t much of a difference apart from the dual rear camera on the XS. However, the XS comes with a stainless steel frame and a glass back. While the XR sports an aluminium alloy frame with glass back.

It’s also worthy to note that the XS weighs less at 177g, while the XR is surprisingly heavy weighing 194g. The XS measures 7.7mm in thickness, while the XR weighs 8.3mm in thickness. The XS is available in Silver, Grey and Gold, while the XR is available in more colours namely Black, Red, Yellow, Blue and Coral.

They both sport the trendy notch display just like the iPhone X, however, the iPhone XS boasts a 5.8-inch Super Retina AMOLED screen with a screen resolution of 1125 × 2346 pixels and a sharp pixel per inch density of 463 for stunning visuals.

While the XR is built around a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD screen and boasts of 828 x 1792 pixels in resolution and a 326 pixel per inch density. Details on the XS will be clearer, but it’s all about if you want an AMOLED screen or an LCD one. The iPhone Xs is also HDR10 certified and you will be able to watch YouTube in full HD while you can only watch Youtube in HD on the XR.

In the photography department, the XS sports an improved dual rear 12MP + 12MP camera with Quad-LED Flash, f/1.8 + f/2.4 aperture and 1.4um + 1.0um pixel size respectively.

While the XR sports a single 12MP rear camera with Quad-LED Flash, f/1.8 aperture and 1.4um pixel size as well. For selfies, they both sport the same 7MP Selfie Camera with f/2.2 aperture and an infrared lens for Face ID.

In terms of performance, they are both powered by the Apple A12 Bionic chip with an Hexa-core processor that clocks up to 2.5GHz. They also run on the same iOS 12 operating system obviously, while the Apple GPU, 8-core neutral engine handles graphics.

Although, in the RAM and storage department, there’s a bit of a difference. The iPhone XS boasts of 4GB RAM with 64GB/256GB/512GB storage variants, while the XR comes with just 3GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage space variants.

Their battery hasn’t been revealed yet by the company, however, the Xs battery capacity should be much bigger than the XR.

The iPhone Xs is more expensive obviously, it has a starting price of about $999 (N350,000). While the iPhone XR is more affordable with a starting price of about $799 (N270,000). It all depends on your budget here. The iPhone Xs is definitely better than the XR, so if you can add bucks, you should go for the iPhone Xs.

From the comparison, the iPhone XR offers more value for money. It’s powered by the same A12 Bionic chip, although, you get to lose a rear camera, a sharper display and lesser RAM space. If you are on a budget you get to save $200.
