MediaTek’s Dimensity series has taken what is expected to be a new leap. The company today unveiled the Dimensity 1200 and 1100. The duo chip is built on a 6nm process technology, which is a first in the series. They are also the first to use the Cortex-A78 CPU core.
The Dimensity 1200 is the higher version with a CPU combination of 1+3+4 cores. Its prime core has a clock speed of 3.0 GHz while the other three Cortex-A78 runs at 2.6 GHz. The remaining four cores which are Cortex-A55 runs at 2.0 GHz.
According to MediaTek, the overall CPU performance is up by 22% while power efficiency is up by 25% when compared to its predecessor.
The Dimensity 1100 on the other hand, doesn’t have a prime core. Instead, all four of its Cortex-A78 runs at 2.6 GHz.
Both chipsets feature the Mali-G77 GPU (9 cores) that is popular in the 1000-series. The good side is that there is a hardware acceleration now in the AV1 video.
The Dimensity 1200 supports 168 Hz displays with camera sensors of up to 200MP. While the 1100 supports 144 Hz displays and camera sensors of up to 108MP.
According to reports, companies like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are looking to use the new Dimensity 1200 and 1100 chips. New phones are expected sometime around April 2021.
