Motorola Razr 2019 Specs and Price Review

Motorola has somehow managed to revive a 15 years old model device is trending. Well, we are in the era of foldable smartphones. The new Motorola Razr 2019 is a cutting-edge foldable smartphone inspired by the iconic Motorola Razr V3 which was released in 2004.

Unlike the Razr V3 where half of the phone features a keyboard, the new Razr 2019 is all display. The phone will be a direct competitor to the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Motorola Razr 2019 Key Specs

  •  6.2-inch OLED display
  •  16MP rear camera
  •  5MP selfie camera
  •  Snapdragon 710 SoC
  •  Android 9 Pie
  •  6GB/128GB
  •  2,510 mAh battery

Design

Motorola Razr 2019

The design is pretty similar to the 2004 Razr V3. It models a flip-flat hinge with chunky bottom, which houses a fingerprint reader. Just like every other foldable device we have today, you should be worried about the folding mechanism. The device uses an electronic-SIM and there is no extra slot available for either microSD or SIM. When folded, the Motorola Razr measures 94 x 72 x 14mm in dimensions. But when it is flipped/unfolded, it measures 172 x 72 x 6.9 mm. The device weighs 205 grams and is also Splash resistant. Given the folding nature of the device, it will be hard to make it water-resistant with so many loopholes.

Display

The display is the iconic thing about this Razr smartphone. The foldable display is a goal mine at least for now. The Motorola Razr has two displays, the main one is the foldable 6.2-inch P-OLED panel with 876 x 2142 pixels and 373 PPI density. Once you close the phone, there is a small display at the front; a 2.7-inch G-OLED with 600 x 800 pixels resolution. Streaming movies on the 6.2″ display looks pretty sharp and detail, though you’ll notice the hinge mechanism, which might be distracting to most.

Hardware and Software

Inside the Motorola Razr is a Snapdragon 710 SoC which is nowhere near the Snapdragon 855 SoC featured in the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Kirin 980 SoC in the Huawei Mate X. What was Motorola thinking here? Anyways, the device runs on Android 9 Pie which is very much compatible with foldable devices. It supports various Motorola gestures under the “Moto Actions” section.

Camera

The Motorola Razr 2019 comes with a single 16MP rear camera. It feels awkward seeing a 2019 smartphone with just one rear camera, even a budget device these days comes with at least two cameras. With that said, the camera software of this device is premium, which means it should still take great and quality 2019 pictures. At the front is a 5MP camera, which should handle all your selfies need.

Battery

The Motorola Razr 2019 biggest weakness is its chipset and battery. The foldable smartphone packs a mere non-removable Li-Po 2510 mAh battery. The battery is divided into two, one at top and one at the bottom halves of the phone. It’s exactly the technique used on the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold is just that these two have a better chipset and bigger battery.
