OnePlus 6 arrives with Snapdragon 845 and a Notched Screen

After series of leaks, the OnePlus 6 has finally graced us with its magnificent presence. Even though it arrived late, the OnePlus 6 is ready to prove it’s better than most flagship released in 2018. The design on the OnePlus 6 isn’t what we’ll call “revolutionary”. I mean, we’ve seen the notched screen a couple of times now on different smartphones. The Snapdragon 845 chip is almost on most flagship released this year, even on the latest Smartisan smartphone.

There’s 8GB of RAM top variant on the OnePlus 6 as well, just like on the 5T. However, OnePlus is known for giving flagship experience for the lowest price and the OnePlus 6 vows to follow suit. In terms of design, OnePlus brought on the Metal + Glass combination we’ve seen on most flagships. It’s available in a reflective Mirror Black, a matte Midnight Black and a Silk White limited edition. As expected, the dual shooters are vertical at the top middle, with the LED flash and fingerprint underneath.

There’s a Gorilla Glass 5 at the back, making it glow in the presence of light. The phone has splash resistant, but isn’t fully water resistant, having just IP54 certifications. The 6.28” Optic AMOLED display is the largest screen ever on a OnePlus device. It dishes out a 19:9 aspect ratio and stretches up to 84% screen to body ratio. The screen has 1080 x 2280 pixels in resolution and pixel per inch density, with support for both sRGB and DCI-P3.

The OnePlus 6 triumphs in the camera department, it records 4K videos @ 60 fps, which is rare even in 2018. That’s not all, it can shoot 480 fps slow-mo videos at 720p resolution for 3.75s, which is brilliant. Recording the video is the 16 MP first shooter at the back, boasting of a sensor size that’s 19% larger than the one in the 5T. While the second camera underneath is a 20MP shooter. There’s OIS, a new improved HDR algorithm and Smart Capture which automatically optimizes image quality based on what you are shooting.

The 16MP selfie BV shooter is AI-powered, it uses the AI feature to create the Portrait mode’s bokeh. The front camera also does face unlocking in 0.4s, or you can use the rear fingerprint scanner which unlocks in 0.1s. As stated above, the OnePlus 6 is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset with octa-core processor clocked at 2.8GHz. The 3300 mAh battery capacity supports 4.0 dash charge (5V/4A), 0% to 100% in 50 minutes. It doesn’t support wireless charging as well.

In terms of storage and RAM variants, the one with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage has a starting price of $529. The 8GB RAM and 128GB variant goes for $579, while the 8GB RAM and 256GB version retails for $629. You can’t expand the storage any further, there’s no MicroSD slot here. It has 4×4 MIMO antennas which offer gigabit LTE. It will be available in North America, Asia and Europe from May 22, and the rest of the world from June 5. The Silk White limited edition will not be available anywhere until June 5 as well.
