Possible Reasons for Fortnite’s Server Shutdown in China

In 2018, the mobile version of Fortnite was released in China. The Epic Games battle royale, on the other hand, never made it out of beta in the region. The cause for this is the country’s continuous stringent government rules. The creators have finally chosen to shut down the Chinese Fortnite servers after several years. As a result, Chinese players will be unable to participate in the game.

There is currently no explanation as to why Fortnite China has been abruptly turned down. However, it’s safe to presume that this is due to the Chinese government’s continued limitations on the gaming industry. Only a few months ago, the Chinese government enacted new legislation prohibiting minors under the age of 18 from playing for more than 3 hours on weekends.

Another challenge is that obtaining a license to sell virtual items in the country is getting increasingly difficult. Furthermore, Fortnite’s freemium business model does not appeal in China. As a result, the Fortnite servers have been unavailable for players in the country since November 15.
