Xiaomi Redmi 8 Specs and Price in Nigeria

Xiaomi Redmi 8 comes as another version of the Redmi 8A announced a while back but with a slightly beefier spec and design.

The Redmi 8 comes with the same 6.22-inch display as the 8A and also has the Snapdragon 439 SoC on the inside.

The device has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, has a dual rear camera setup, a single front-facing camera and is packing a whopping 5,000mAh battery. It also runs xiaomi’s MIUI 9 on top of Android 9.0 Pie. Let’s find out more.

Xiaomi Redmi 8 Design And Display

Redmi 8 has a 6.22-inch notched IPS LCD display. The IPS LCD panel has an HD+ resolution (720p) with a 270ppi. A waterdrop notch sits at the top of the display housing the front-facing camera. There is also chin down below with the Redmi logo on it.

Turning over to the back of the device reveals the glass back which is actually a corning gorilla glass 5. As expected, we have the LED flash, cameras and fingerprint setup lined up at the centre.

Overall, the device weighs 188grams, measures 9.4mm in thickness and comes in colours Onyx Black, Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue. This device also has a dual SIM card slot as well as a dedicated microSD card slot for additional storage.

Camera Specs

Redmi 8 has a dual-camera setup at the rear and one up front tucked away in the waterdrop notch. The one in front for selfies is a single 8MP camera unit with an f/2.0 aperture. It supports HDR and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

At the rear, we have the 12MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and dual-pixel PDAF accompanied by a secondary 2MP depth sensor camera. The rear camera has an LED with features like HDR and Panorama. It can also shoot 1080p videos at 30fps as well.

Hardware and Software

Just like Redmi 8A, the Redmi 8 is also rocking the Snapdragon 439 SoC from Qualcomm. This chipset is based on the 12nm process technology, has an octa-core processor clocked at 1.95GHz and an Adreno 505 GPU.

Memory and storage options are limited to just two which has 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage respectively. However, you can expand the storage further, thanks to the dedicated microSD slot which can accommodate up to 512GB.

Unfortunately, it runs MIUI 9 out of the box which will hopefully get bumped up to MIUI 10. Nonetheless, the MIUI 9 it comes with is based on Android 9.0 Pie.

Battery and Connectivity

Redmi 8 has a large 5,000mAh battery on the inside and paired with a power-efficient chipset like the Snapdragon 439, it should easily get you through the day. The battery supports fast charging of up to 18W. However, it only comes with a 10W brick in the box.

Other features of the smartphone include 4G LTE connectivity, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, GPS, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm jack and a USB Type-C port for all things USB.

Redmi 8 Price in Nigeria and Availability

Redmi 8 costs about $110 or $130 which is approximately N40,000 or N50,000 Naira in Nigeria for either the one 3GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB respectively. It is set to hit the shelves in the coming weeks.
