The much-awaited Samsung phone of 2018, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have finally been unveiled today at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain. This launch event which was widely televised online laid to rest all speculations and rumours about these devices. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Have been dubbed camera re-imagined due to the state-of-the-art camera technology of both devices.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are Samsung’s most advanced camera ever. They have been redesigned with a new dual aperture lens that powers an innovative low light camera, Super Slow-mo video capabilities and personalized AR Emoji.
With the new dual aperture lens, you can shoot either at F1.5 or F2.4 depending on the lighting condition. The S9 and S9+ are the first phone in the world that makes possible to change the aperture you are shooting with.
From the look of things, the biggest upgrade in this year’s Galaxy S Series is the camera. There are four unique camera features of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.
Super Slow-motion mode
with this feature, you can now record slow-motion video that captures 960 frames per second. This is made possible through the automatic Motion Detection, an intelligent feature that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record.
All you have to do is simply set up the camera in slow motion mode and begin the shot. you can even overlay a background music after recording the video.
Low Light Capability
The new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus cameras have been reconfigured for taking low light photos. There is no gainsaying the fact that good lighting is vital to good and quality photos.
The F1.5 and F2.4 aperture on both devices automatically let in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, making photo taking both in the day or night a piece of cake.
AR Emoji now on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus
Whether you call it animoji, human Emoji or AR Emoji, It is Samsung answer to Apple’s Animoji on the iPhone X. The AR Emoji lets users create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts just like them.
The system uses a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyzes a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions, like winks and nods, for true personalization.
An Improved Bixby
Remember last year feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Bixby? the Samsung’s artificial intelligence platform has now been fully integrated into the camera. This means users can now the camera to detect a real-time object with the help of Bixby that instantly generates information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at.
It also has the capability to translate foreign languages and currency in real time and one can take a photo of any item or product you like and Bixby will provide information on where it can be purchased.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a single 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. The Samsung S9 Plus on the other hands comes fully loaded with a Dual Pixel 12MP sensor [ F1.5/F2.4] and a telephoto 12MP sensor [F2.4] at the back and an 8MP front camera.

Design-wise, the Samsung S9 measures 147.7 x 68.7 x 8.5 mm in dimensions and 163 g while the S9 Plus measures 158.1 x 73.8 x 8.5 mm in dimensions and weighs 189 g. In the display side of things, the S9 and S9 Plus still retain the screen sizes of their predecessors, the s8 and S8 Plus.
The S9 has a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED screen while the S9 plus boasts a 6.2-inch display. One Significant improvement over the S8 is the placement of the fingerprint scanner which has now been placed just below the camera. Other things remain pretty the same.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 plus also got a boost in terms of processing speed. Under the hood, you have the all-new Qualcomm 10nm 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset driving the show. The processor has a maximum clock speed of 2.8 GHz and an Adreno 540 GPU.
Depending on whether you go for the S9 or the S9 Plus, you get a 4GB of RAM or 6GB of RAM and internals have remained 64GB but you have an option to expand to 400GB storage via a MicroSD card. They are both powered by the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.

In terms of battery juice, the S9 has a 3000mAh battery while on the S9 Plus there is an improvement of 500mAh. Both devices support the lightning-fast charge and wireless charging as well
Price and Availability
Considering the specs of the new Galaxy devices, one would expect them to be priced above the $1000 mark. But the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have been competitively priced.
The Samsung S8 will cost $719.99 while the S9 Plus will retail for $839.99.
