TECNO Camon 12 Air Vs Infinix S5: Which one to buy?

Tecno and Infinix are among the most popular smartphone brands in Nigeria. In case you don’t know, Tecno and Infinix are subsidiary companies of Transsion Holdings, based in Shenzhen China.

In this article, we shall be comparing the Tecno Camon 12 Air and Infinix S5. The two smartphones are similar and were released within the last 2 months.

Design

The Camon 12 Air comes with a plastic unibody design same as the Infinix S5. They both feature a punch-hole at the top left corner of the display.

On the back, both phones feature a fingerprint reader at the top middle. The fingerprint reader of the Camon 12 Air is in a circular shape. While that of the Infinix S5 is in a square shape with round edges.

In terms of weight and dimension, the Infinix weighs around 178g and measures 164 x 76 x 7.9 mm in dimension.

The Camon 12 Air is lighter weighing around 160g and measures 164.2mm x 76.1mm x 8.15mm in dimension.

Camon 12 Air Vs Infinix S5-Display

Not much of a difference in the display of both smartphones. The display size of the Tecno Camon 12 Air is slightly smaller ‘on paper. It measures 6.55-inch while that of the Infinix S5 measures 6.66-inch.

Aside from that, their display is protected by 2.5D glass. It features a 19:9 aspect ratio and 720 x 1600 pixels resolution.

Camera

As far as the Camera goes, the Camon 12 Air has a total of four cameras, three at the back and one at the front. The rear camera module on the Camon 12 Air is home to a 16MP main sensor, 5MP wide-angle sensor, 2MP depth sensor and a Quad-LED flash.

On the Infinix S5, you have a quad rear camera set up consisting of a 16-megapixel (f/1.8) main + 5-megapixel wide-angle + 2-megapixel depth sensor  + 2-megapixel low light camera and a 32-megapixel front shooter for selfies.

It’s weird seeing the S5 with better camera specs, considering the fact the Camon series is essentially known for its great camera setup.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, both the Camon 12 Air and the Infinix S5 are powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC. So performance-wise, these two phones are basically the same.

The S5 also comes in a 4GB/64GB memory option. While for the Camon 12 Air, you get a 3GB/32GB memory for the Nigerian market and 4GB/64GB ROM for the Indian Market.

They both run on Android 9 Pie with their respective company’s UI. The Infinix S5 Android Pie is slapped with XOS skin. While that of the Camon 12 Air comes with HiOS skin.

Battery

Powering the Infinix S5 is a 4,000 mAh battery capacity, it comes with a micro USB charger. Same with the Camon 12 Air, it is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery and also supports micro USB charger.

Price and Verdict

The Infinix S5 starting price is around N47,000 while the Camon 12 Air starts at N42,500. Without a doubt, the Infinix S5 is the better option here as it has more RAM and storage.

The price disparity here is just N5,000 and yet the Infinix S5 has better camera specs, a 4GB/64GB memory, but if your budget is around N42,000, then the Camon 12 Air should serve just fine.
