TECNO Spark 3 Vs Spark 4: What are the major differences?

The Tecno Spark 4 was released in the third quarter of 2019. It was the third smartphone from the Spark series to be launched this year by Tecno. The other two is Spark Go and Spark 4 Air. The Spark 4 is the successor of last year’s Spark 3.

Generally, the Spark series is a budget-friendly series targeting the youths. Here, we look at the major differences between the Tecno Spark 4 and Spark 3.

The body build of both Spark phones is the same, front glass with plastic unibody. The body of the Spark 3 has a glossy finish while the Spark 4 has an Aurora gradient finish. While the Spark 3 features the normal big notch, the Spark 4 comes with a smaller waterdrop notch. They both feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Spark 4 being the successor, comes with three rear cameras aligned at the top left corner in a vertical position. While the Spark 3 has just two cameras in the exact same position.

The Spark 4 is available in Royal Purple, Majestic Purple and Vacation Blue body colours. It measures 8.2mm in thickness and weighs 168 grams. While the Tecno Spark 3 measures 8.13 mm and is available in Blue, Gold and Grey colours.

The Tecno Spark 3 sports a 6.2″ IPS LCD display with 720p resolution. The Spark 4 isn’t that better aside from it’s 6.52″ display size, it features the 720p resolution. Protecting the display of both phones is a 2.5D glass.

The Spark 3 comes with a dual rear camera module consisting of a 13MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor for bokeh effects. The 1GB RAM variant of the Spark 3 features just one camera at the back with the absence of the 2MP camera.

For the Spark 4, it comes with a triple rear camera consisting of 13MP main sensor, a 2MP depth sensor and a low-light sensor. The front camera on both devices sports an 8MP sensor.

Hardware and Software

The Tecno Spark 3 has two models for this category. The 1GB RAM model is powered by MediaTek MT6580 chipset and runs on Android Oreo (Go edition). While the 2GB RAM model is powered by MediaTek MT6761 Helio A22 chipset and runs on Android Pie. They both the traditional Tecno’s HiOS UI skin. The internal storage is 16GB. The Spark 3 Pro, however, comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which are the specs you have on the new Spark 4.

For the Tecno Spark 4, you don’t have to get all confused. It comes with the Helio A22 SoC and has RAM options of 2GB, 3GB and 4GB.

The one you are getting in Nigeria is the one with 2GB RAM and 32GB of storage while the 3GB and 4GB RAM options are exclusive to the Indian market.

Battery

Both models of the Spark 3 packs a 3,500 mAh battery capacity with no fast charging support. While the Spark 4 comes with a 4,000 mAh battery capacity and likely won’t support fast charging either.

Price and Verdict

The 1GB/16GB model of the Tecno Spark 3 costs N29,900 while the 2GB/32GB goes for N32,500. The Tecno Spark 4 costs N34,500 for the 2GB/32GB available to the Nigerian market. The Tecno Spark 4 is the obvious pick here if you consider specs and pricing.

So basically, the Spark 4 has better battery life, updated design, more storage and it costs just N2000 more than the Spark 3. So if you are considering buying any of the two devices, the Spark 5 is definitely a better device
