Tecno Camon 12 and Infinix S4 are the latest instalments in their respective lines, succeeding the Tecno Camon 11 and Infinix S3X respectively.
Both smartphones here have a somewhat identical footprint with not just similar specs but with a similar design as well.
Thankfully, they both fall under the same price range which makes the comparison purely specs-based. Without further ado, let’s get right down to it.
Design & Display
As I said, Tecno Camon 12 and Infinix S4 has the same footprint starting from the design. Both devices are rocking a premium plastic shell, also known as polycarbonate.
They both also have a triple camera setup lined up meticulously at the top left side of the device.
Underneath the cameras on both devices are the LED flash and of course, a fingerprint sensor for biometric unlock at its usual spot.
Tecno Camon 12 comes in Dark Jade, Dawn Blue and Sky Cyan as its colour options. Infinix S4, on the other hand, has Space grey, nebula blue and twilight purple as colours to choose from.
The front of both devices is also similar with a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display on the Tecno Camon 12 and a 6.2-inch IPS LCD on the Infinix S4.
Both displays are HD+, have a waterdrop notch for the selfie cameras and also have a layer of glass on top for screen protection. As expected, the chin, although subtly small, is still available and visible on both devices.
Hardware & Software
Tecno Camon 12 and Infinix S4 are also rocking similar internals. Both devices have a Mediatek Helio P22 SoC on the inside which has an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz beside a PowerVR GE8320 for gaming.
Memory configurations are where the difference is. Tecno Camon 12 has 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage while Infinix S4 has two options to choose from; 3GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB.
Storage space on both devices is also expandable via the dedicated microSD onboard. However, you can only go as high as 128GB on the Infinix S4 and 256GB on the Tecno Camon 12.
Both devices are up to date on the operating system department with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Of course, that would be covered on both devices by their respective skins; HiOS 5.5 on the Tecno Camon 12 and XOS 5 on the Infinix S4.
Camera
We have a pretty similar camera setup on both devices; three at the back and one at the front.
On the Tecno Camon 12, we have a 16MP main camera accompanied by a 5MP and 2MP cameras.
Infinix S4, on the other hand, has a slightly lower 13MP main camera, accompanied by an 8MP and 2MP cameras.
The rear camera on both devices also features a Quad-LED flash, HDR, Panorama and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
As for selfies, the Tecno Camon 12 has a 16MP shooter while the Infinix S4 has a more selfie-centric 32MP shooter.
The selfie cameras on both devices have HDR and can be used for faceID as well as recording 720p videos at 30fps. There is also a dual-LED flash on the Camon 12 selfie camera for that extra pop in low light conditions.
Battery & Connectivity
Both devices have a 4,000mAh battery capacity with no mention of fast charging support.
They both also have 4G LTE, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, FM radio, GPS, a 3.5mm jack and of course a microUSB port which also supports USB On The Go.
Price & Verdict
Both the Tecno Camon 12 and Infinix S4 are within the N47,500 to N55,000 price range which isn’t surprising given their identical specs.
The Camon 12 is priced at N47,500 in Nigeria while the Infinix S4 has a starting price of around N54,000 for the 4GB/64GB version.
Judging from the specs and price, the Camon 12 is a better device here
