Vivo Y81 has been unveiled in Taiwan by the company as another low-end mid-range smartphone. Vivo is the official smartphone partner of the on-going world cup and the company keeps releasing these bezel-less beauties.
The Y81 is the watered-down variant of the Y83 and comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage space. There’s support for Face ID as well, with the trending notched screen displaying everything nicely. Let’s find out more.

VIVO Y81 DESIGN
The Y81 sports a Plastic body that looks like most mid-range smartphones from the company. Just by looking at the body, you’ll definitely know it’s a Vivo smartphone with the same and a rear camera at the top left corner.
Vivo ditched the rear camera on this one and opted for a more reliable Face ID. When you turn to the sides, it measures 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 146.5g overall. It was launched in Black, no words yet if other colours will be released.
VIVO Y81 DISPLAY
The device was built around a notch-screen, exactly the same screen we saw on the Y83. Most of the smartphones released by Vivo for the World Cup has the trending notched screen, and the Y81 didn’t disappoint in that regard.
It boasts of a tall 6.22-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which is ready to display stunning visuals. The screen has a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels and 270 pixel per inch density. Impressively, the screen stretches up to 83% screen-to-body ratio, while a Corning Gorilla Glass is on top.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
The Y81 is powered by the Helio P22 chip, which is the first chip to be built on a 12nm process technology bringing AI features. The 8-cores of processor here reaches a speed of 2.0GHz. While the PowerVR GE8320 graphics processor does its job as well.
You can multitask smoothly with 3GB RAM which has a fast memory speed as well. The storage space has reduced as well and now sits at 32GB. Although, you can upgrade further up to 256GB using a memory card. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0.
VIVO Y81 CAMERA
For photography, it has a single 13MP rear camera. This has an aperture of f/2.2 and comes with a LED flash. Features on the cameras include phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. For selfies, the 5MP shooter at the notch has f/2.2 aperture as well.
Network Connectivity, Battery and Availability
It supports 4G LTE and can accommodate dual Nano SIMs and a microSD card. It has Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot and A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS. The Vivo Y81 is powered by a non-removable Li-Po 3260mAh battery with fast charging technology. Vivo Y81 is available on shopping stores, starting from $199 to $249, that’s about (N70,000 – N85,000).
