Xiaomi Mi Band 3 brings a heart rate sensor, OLED screen for just $30

The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 was unveiled yesterday at Xiaomi’s 8th year anniversary event in China. The Band 3 brings an upgraded OLED panel and NFC compared to the Band 2. The new Band offers a heart rate sensor and a 0.78-inch OLED screen, the good part is that it’s surprisingly affordable. Xiaomi is one of the most popular smartphones and wearable maker in the world right now.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 was introduced alongside flagship smartphones, the Mi 8, Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 SE. The fitness tracker does everything you want from a fitness Band plus more, the heart rate sensor will tell you when you need a workout or not. The 0.78-inch OLED screen makes you see things on the display much clearer even when you’re out in the sun. The screen has a resolution of 128 x 80 pixels, while a 110mAh battery powers up the band.

Once fully charged, the 110mAh battery lasts for more than 20 days before you even think of charging it up. The Mi Band 3 is also IP68 certified, offering water resistant for up to 50 meters and 30 minutes underwater. This will let you easily wear it to the pool, especially if swimming is part of your favourite exercise.

The Bluetooth connection is the v4.2 LE, and it’s also important to note that the larger screen allows more information to be displayed on the band for incoming texts and notifications, compared to the 0.42-inch on the Mi Band 2. The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 was introduced in Blue, Black and Blue colours. The company will also make more vibrant colours available in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi is famous globally for their affordability and the Mi Band 3 continues that tradition. The fitness band will go on sale in China first for just ¥179, or the equivalent of $30. That’s for the version with NFC connectivity, and there’s also a standard variant without NFC that will retail for around $25. It will be available globally in the coming weeks. Will you be getting one?
