Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Vs Redmi 7 – What is the difference?

The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 7 are the two latest smartphones offering from the Xiaomi in Nigeria. While these two devices don’t belong in the same segment with the former being a Mid-ranger and the latter being kind of a budget device, there seem to be mix up of the name as well as the specifications since both devices have a somewhat identical look as well as the name. So we will be clearing that here by pointing out the differences between these two Redmi devices.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Vs Redmi 7 – Design & Display

Starting off in the display department, the Redmi Note 7 has a slightly bigger 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top and a water-drop notch housing the front-facing camera. There is yet another glass at the back with plastic frame all around.

Redmi 7, on the other hand, has a 6.26-inch HD+ display with also a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top and a water drop notch that houses the front-facing camera as well. The back of the Redmi 7 is made of plastic unlike the Note 7 which is made of glass.

Redmi Note 7 weighs around 180 grams, measures 8.1mm in thickness and has Blue, Black and Twilight Gold as its available colour options while Redmi 7 weighs 180grams, measures 8.5mm in thickness and comes in colours Lunar Red, Eclipse Black and Comet Blue.

Redmi Note 7 uses a Hybrid SIM slot which means one SIM and a MicroSD card or Just Two SIM cards while Redmi 7 has a dual SIM slot and a dedicated MicroSD card slot for more storage.

Both devices use a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. The Redmi Note 7 uses a Snapdragon 660 Chipset which has an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz paired with an Adreno 512GPU. Redmi 7, on the other hand, uses a Snapdragon 632 which also has an octa-core processor but clocked at 1.8GHz with Adreno 506 GPU.

Redmi Note 7 comes in three configurations; 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB while Redmi 7 comes in four configurations; 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB, 3GB/64GB and a China exclusive 4GB/64GB.

Additional storage of up 256GB can be added to the Redmi Note 7 through the second SIM slot which doubles as a microSD card. The Redmi 7 can also accommodate up to 256GB via its dedicated MicroSD card slot. Both devices runs Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 slapped on top.

Both devices have a total of three cameras; two at the back and one up front. The cameras on the Redmi 7 consist of 12MP main rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture with PDAF and a secondary 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. It also has an LED flash, HDR and Panorama with the ability to shoot 1080p videos at 30/60fps. An 8MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture and HDR takes care of selfies which can also shoot 1080p videos but only at 30fps.

Redmi Note 7 on the other hand two models with different dual camera setups. The first has a 48MP rear camera with PDAF accompanied by a secondary 5MP depth sensor camera for portrait shots, both of which have an f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The second has a 12MP rear camera with PDAF and a secondary 2MP depth senor camera, both of which have an f/2.2 and f/2.4 aperture respectively.

Regardless of the camera setup, you still get a dual-LED flash, HDR, Panorama and 1080p video recording at 30/60/120fps slo-mo with gyro-EIS. For selfies, the single 13MP front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture and HDR does the job. It can also record 1080p videos at 30fps.

Battery & Connectivity

Both the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 7 are powered by a 4,000mAh battery with support for an 18W fast charging (Quick Charge 4) on the Redmi Note 7 and a 10W fast battery charging on the Redmi 7.

Both devices also have a fingerprint sensor mounted on their back. Other features they have in common include 4G LTE connectivity, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, Bluetooth, GPS, infrared port and FM radio. Charging and file transfer is done through the USB Type-C on the Redmi Note 7 and through the microUSB through the Redmi 7.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 costs N58,000 for the 3GB/32GB, N67,000 for the 4GB/64GB and N75,000 for the 4GB/128GB. Redmi 7, on the other hand, goes for N42,000 for the 2GB/16GB, N48,000 for the 3GB/32GB and N54,000 for the 3GB/64GB in Nigeria
